assidman
That looks amazing Wolf, really good job. Im trying to make a mod race myself, im working with 3ds max 2010. Its an elven-like race and i started by editing a normal human generic race (femalehead.nif) and now im modeling the ears, im asuming now that i'll have to make corrections in the uv map because im creating new faces on the mesh and i was wondering if you can share a little about the process of makeing the uv map or maybe if you can point me to some tutorials that you read... it will be very helpfull. Again, your race looks awesome!
WorldShaperDragon
Thanks! I intentionally avoided altering the poly count in my meshes, not because of the UV maps, which I can handle easily, but because modifying the poly count results in the morphs breaking, meaning that I'd have to recreate the tri-files & morphs. DarkLylyth
What have you gotten so far?Im not very far in it. I've started to edit the mesh, but I stopped after finishing the centre, mainly because I was struggling to figure out what to do next. Its pretty terrible now that I look at it again...Im not entirely sure whether I want to post it
Gamerboy385
Would either of you happen to know anything about the skeleton in the _1stperson folder in the character race folder? is it essential in order to make a custom race playable?I ask because I've been working on making a new playable race with a new skeleton and mesh for the past month and I have yet to be able to select it in the race selection menu without the game crashing to my desktop. I'm thinking it might be because I don't have a _1stperson skeleton yet.
WorldShaperDragon
@Gamerboy Hmmm no, it shouldn't be. The werewolf is playable via transformation, and using the console, you can play as theoretically any race, and they don't have first person capabilities at all. @DarkLylyth Have you exported it and tried to use it in-game? I figured out what was causing it: i had my BODY biped object selected in the first person section of my race's body data tab. Now i'm able to play as my new race via console commands, which brought me no end of smiles and happiness when I finally typed in the command and didn't crash instantly. Now I need to make the same thing happen in the race selection menu, since that still causes a CTD when I highlight my race. Do I need to have a special actor set up for the player race menu to work? Or do I need some sort of facegen data? Or something else entirely? Edited March 16, 2012 by Gamerboy385
WorldShaperDragon
Argh, sorry for the long response delay, but its finals week for me for this quarter right now. So yeah. Anyways, you'll need the egm & tri files for the char-gen menu to function right, though I don't know that much about them. --- In other news, I'm probably going to try to release a pre-alpha for my mod sometime this week since I won't be able to do much outside the CK next week while I'm at home & only have lower-powered computers with me. Turns out all i needed was some default hair and eyes. No tri or egm files needed since i only have one size meshes anyway.
WorldShaperDragon
ah ok, thats good to know... I managed to get away with no default hair though so far, so I would imagine only having something in the default eye slot is necessary
