Stuck in the Institute

Just arrived. I got as far as

the room with Shaun. That whole conversation went as it predictably would. (Is our hero soooo dense that, after seeing his one-year-old kidnapped, and then apparently grown to the age of ten in the care of whoever kidnapped him, for all intents and purposes raised in a foster family, is unable to conceive that his son CAN'T recognize his own biological father? Duh. Functionally an INT of maybe 3.) Anyway, Father arrives and does his "Shaun, S9-23, activation access code Cirrus" line and then.... nothing. Shaun doesn't droop in the OFF position. Both Shaun and Father are in "This person is busy" mode. Effectively, that's where the game is stuck in the Twilight Zone.

 

Anybody have a solution for getting past this roadblock?

I did a Save at the glitch point. When I Loaded that, it brought me right back to that glitch point. I quit to desktop and then restarted the game and Loaded that Save, and again I was stuck at the glitch point. So I Loaded a Save from before I got to the glitch point, but again when I got there it glitched.

 

I have the feeling that what I need is the console command to move the action along to

just after synth Shaun gets shut down by the S9-23 command.

I tried going back to the Save from before I built the required electronics. Went forward into the Institute. When I get to the glitch point, it glitches on cue, EVERY TIME.


Without getting past the glitch, there is literally no coming back from the Institute. Which in turn means that there's no going _to_ the Institute. Meaning that I can't finish the Main Quest.

did typing setstage mq207 150 in console do anything?

I typed that into the console commands, but when I returned to the game all I got was "Map updated". (Not sure in what way the map was changed.) The two characters at the glitch point remain "This person is busy".

that should point you to the next stage of that quest to go meet the heads of department.

ignore Father and Synth Shaun and head on to the next stage.

 

you might have to console "unlock" on the door to get out of that room, but hopefully you will be able to continue

I didn't see it before because I was focused on Shaun and Father (not getting past Father's command), but it seems the setstage command activated all the following quests and unlocked the requisite doors. So I am now merrily traipsing through the Institute, vacuuming everything in sight. ["Bissel Hoover: Leaving the Commonwealth a tidier place wherever he goes."]
