dubiousintent
Since my original response to the OP, there has been an updated BSA creation package called BSArch (freeware) by zilav. A command line tool for packing and unpacking Bethesda archives. The most complete support setting the correct flags across all the various Bethesda games. (The author is a principal maintainer of the xEdit/TES5Edit team.) The name for a mod BSA can be anything as long as the first part is sufficiently identical to the same initial part of the ESM file it belongs to. It must be distinct from other BSA files, and the game developers use a "space and hyphen" to separate the "distinct" part from the rest of the vanilla game name for it's BSAs (e.g. "Fallout - Textures2.bsa", "Dead Money - Sounds.bsa", etc.) which seems to be a good practice. Simply calling a BSA file "Textures01.bsa" fails to link it to the parent ESM file (unless the ESM in question is named "Textures.ESM"). -Dubious-
zilav
Games prior to Skyrim don't support overriding of assets in archives using other archives, only loose files can. Will require "fixing" by NVSE plugin at the engine level to make it work.
