therussianmuffin
Not sure how else to describe it, and I didn't spend too much time looking for it so if it already exists then I'm sorry. What I'm talking about is a system for ADS where you can be in third person doing third person things, and when you go to aim a gun it switches to the first person iron sights. This would be useful because, as everyone already knows, aiming in third person is a pain. I'm sure there's an easy way to do this, whether it's making a simple command where every time you ADS it switches to first person, then back to third person once you're done aiming, or making it possible to bind the two keys together so both actions happen simultaneously. The second option might not be practical because if you're already in first person it'll just put you in third person. If there's an easy way to do this then I'd be more than willing to do it on my own, I just need to learn how to do it. I don't have much modding experience except for making a radio station in fallout 4, but even that took me like 3 hours just for a couple songs. Also if this is in the wrong category then I'm sorry again.
dubiousintent
It's already included in the game. Enable the "True Iron Sights" configuration option. Then when you use the "Block" key (default is < Right-click >) when holding a gun, you switch to FPV and line up the weapon sights. You might want to also see the "Aiming -" entries in the wiki "Fallout NV Mod Conflict Troubleshooting" guide 'Solutions to Graphics problems' section about some of the nuances. -Dubious-
therussianmuffin
Not sure what you mean, I know how to use iron sights I've been playing the game since it came out. If you're in third person and right click it just aims in third person, it doesn't matter if you have the iron sights on. https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B--yxbO77qwRQjU0NWk1djJqZEE
dubiousintent
As noted in the "Aiming - Third Person" entry, it only works with some weapons, and those with scopes, with Iron Sights (IS) "on". (Guess I need to emphasize that.) Not all weapons have IS. (Some "Power Armor" mods are known to break this.) It's been a long standing request. In researching this I've found only two mods that even imply to allow general switching to FPV from TPV when aiming. Both are ports from FO3. I have no idea how well either works.* [http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/44546/? aim in first New Vegas] by Gudwyn.* [http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/35161/? RH IronSights - New Vegas by Rogue Hallow. (By implication of adding IS to weapons; not explicitly stating it switches viewpoints.) Let me know how they work and I'll update the "Troubleshooting" guide for the next person asking. -Dubious-
therussianmuffin
I appreciate you taking the time to look for those mods. Like I said I didn't spend a whole lot of time looking for them myself. I've tried both of them and here's what I found:"Aim in First New Vegas" is exactly what I was looking for, but there's about a half second delay between aiming and the view switching to first person. Also, the crosshair remains on the screen even when the view switched to the iron sights. I'm sure I could do some tweaking and fix it up a bit but I have no idea how."RH IronSights - New Vegas" just makes some tweaks to the iron sight system, and doesn't switch the view from third person to first. I assumed that there would be a menu in the MCM but there was not so I really have no use for the mod. Besides that I guess I can do some more digging around and figure out how to mod it in myself. Thanks again for your help.
dubiousintent
Thanks for the report on those mods. Unfortunately Gudwyn hasn't been active on the Nexus since Dec of 2015, and his mods (both FO3 and FNV versions) don't permit publishing modifications. (Mod creators often forget to open their permissions when they leave the scene.) So if your intent is to publish an improved version, you will need to rewrite it from scratch. You can use the ideas from his scripts but not the code itself ("the specific expression of those ideas"). There are sufficient improvements to NVSE since 2011 that it should be possible to do so (possibly using an EventHandler, which came along later, and "tuning" for better performance). Suggest you look his code over and then ask for help in the "GECK and Modders" sub-forum. You could try asking in the "Mod Requests" sub-forum if anyone else is willing to tackle it (Oh, wait. You did, and I'm all you got in response!), but after 6-7 years it's unlikely if you don't do it yourself. That he came so close should be encouraging. -Dubious- Edited August 8, 2017 by dubiousintent
