Buying Land

So I visited Rorikstead on the game and I thought well wonder if there was a mod that let you purchase areas of land from the jarls and then set up a village.. I couldn't find one so I figured maybe someone could make one? Figure it could be a small town and you could purchase buildings and people would slowly show up or purchase some guard towers and hire mercenaries to watch the town etc Have to pay them wages and have the farmers or whatever you have there paying taxes to you every couple of days.

I'm pretty sure tons of people would love to do this exact thing, it's just a LOT of work.

I'm currently working on two mods, the larger of which is this basically.. well sort of... but in dawnstar... more the later part than the first part ... because you... *cough* *cough* become the jarl *cough* *cough*. Not saying I'll finish it, I'm doing it for fun, with epic quests and whatnot... and haven't actually even gotten to physically upgrading dawnstar yet, that's the fun part :)... but my focus in both my mods is story more than just doing it. I like this idea though. Would remind me of the little town the player helped make in solsteim, second expansion for morrowind. That was pretty cool. Hopefully the skyrim version would fare better though.

Now you've got me thinking... this would be a scaled down version of several things I want to do in a bigger mod. Managing a settlement, with one small exception. I think it would be near essential to have a good second in command. Someone who could run things while you were away and let you deal with town business much like you deal with Companions or Thieves Guild business. You can choose whether you want to deal with a particular matter, or not. I don't think a mod can give the player a responsibility, then expect them to manage their dungeon crawling time around it. That severely messes things up. You can be a good, responsible dragonborn without HAVING to go to your property constantly.

Not saying I'll do this. This is, in fact, a perfect example of a mod where several different similar mods would be great in different places. I will give it some thought though. I started my second mod to practice one portion of my big mod, this would be practice in the other large aspect in my Dawnstar mod. I like the idea of the Dragonborn living happily ever afterish, sort of settling down and making a place for him/herself while still making Skyrim hell for their enemies.
