Expanded_Hotkeys_and_Spell_Delete

I have been unable to get either Expanded_Hotkeys_and_Spell_Delete-5957.zip or Expanded_Hotkeys_and_Spell_Delete_manual-8560.rar to work.

I am using OBMM and have OBSE installed. After activating EHSD the shift key no longer activates running but I have been unable to allocate any items to shift+hotkey or alt+hotkey. I have tried moving the esp to the top and bottom of the load order with no noticable change.

The EHSD_manual.esp causes a large yellow triangle (about person height and a couple of feet thick) with grey tombstone looking bits attached to either side to appear on the path near halfway between the Nothern Door and the Arean (in the Arena District). Tha Manual itself is nowhere to be found.

I have an active quest under listed under Arena that says something like "You have found an interesting book" (I do not have internet at home so cannot see exactly what the message says from here). I do not know whether this message is related to EHSD or not.

I have not tried to activate the configuration menu (F8) yet so if that is the answer I will find out when I go home in a couple of hours. If not, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure how the mod can be responsible for a wrong texture in the world causing you to see a big exclamation point, but as far getting the keys to work correctly, the instructions with the mod are definitely a bit confusing at first. It took me a bit to get it to work the way I wanted. Personally I would recommend switching which two keys are used to access the alternate sets of hotkeys. If you press F8 twice you'll enter the configuration menu, and from there you can switch the keys to 'B' and 'N' instead of Shift and Ctrl.

Also, the way you first link items or spells to the alternate hotkeys can be confusing. If I recall, you must first press F8 once, then hold the alternate key (B or N in my case) while pressing one of the # keys. An inventory window will pop up that appears empty. Press the bag button at the bottom of the window to actually bring up your inventory, then select the item you want to attach to that hotkey. With a spell, you select the spell you want to hotkey first, then you go through the above process.

Hope that helps.

As far as I know, there are no textures associated with the mod you are having problems with. However, I have included an excerpt from one of my unfinished tutorials That may help some. Please send me some feed back on this. Thanks

Yellow block with an exclamation point in it

This is probably the most common problem in mods. It is caused when the game cannot find the mesh called for by a mod. It uses the yellow block as a placeholder to keep from crashing.

All except the simplest mods have new textures and usually Meshes. If you look at the zipped files (expand them to see what is there before installing) you will usually see several types of files. The filename.esp is the actual mod, it goes into the Oblivion\Data folder.

A filname.txt or Readme.txt file - this is the read me file that you should read to see if there are any special instructions for this file, such as it may need another mod to work or need OBSE.

Textures folder. this contains the texture files (.dds) for the mod. this should be copied to the Oblivion\data\textures folder

Meshes folder. This contains the meshes for the mod, it should be copied to the Oblivion\data\meshes folder

Sounds folder. This contains any new sounds needed by the mod. it should be copied into the Oblivion\data\sounds folder

.bsa files these are compressed files that may contain all of the different files. Any .bsa file should be copied without change into the Oblivion\data folder

There may be other files or folders included, but those are the most common.

If you look in the Oblivion/data folder and see a bunch of .dds files, .nif files, .mp3 files they are in the wrong place. You need to MOVE them to the proper folders.

.dds to the textures folder

.nif to the meshes folder

.mp3 to the sounds folder

Thanks for the replies - both helpful. Still trying to get the mod to work, I can attach spells now which is good.

The manual still does not work - it must be relying on a mesh or texture that one of my other mods removed (although why they would remove rather than replace is beyond me). The file for the EHSD mod only has esp files.
