Phantom Vertices added upon export

Hi guys, I would like to point out that this problem keeps recurring and it is really difficult to solve with complex meshes where you do not see which smoothing groups need correcting. I found furthermore that the problem is really created when I add the dismemberment modifier to the mesh. For some reason it decides to mess up the smoothing groups. If I try adding a smoothing modifier above the dismemberment one, the program crashes. If I add it below the dismemberment modifier, it doesn't help.

 

Any proper solutions anyone?
