Companions automatically get a percentage of ammo/other items you loot

So I was watching a video on QoL mods (by Oxhorn) and one mod was mentioned that gives your companions infinite ammo. The narrator said "are you really a nanny who has to make sure that your companions are looting enough ammunition?". Which then got me thinking: IMO, infinite ammo is a bit immersion-breaking and unrealistic, yet having to supply companions with ammo entirely is also not any better. Would it be possible to create a mod where anytime you loot certain types of ammo, a percentage of that goes into the inventory of any companion(s) present? You wouldn't just be able to take this ammo back either, and companions would build up a "bank" of it for future use. This could also maybe be applied to chems or caps as well. Why should the player get 100% of the loot when he or she isn't necessarily doing 100% of the work?

Obviously, this mod would be purely from an immersion standpoint so I'd rather not hear arguments like "why not just give them the items yourself?" because that is beside the point.

Let me know what you guys think, it seems like a cool idea to me but I'm not sure if it's even possible with this engine. Thanks for reading!

would be cool to make NOT infinite ammo, even for default companion weapon., no ammo - get some board and fight melee..

also i think if companion will loot ammo - it will be same as unlimited ammo, boring..

It would be very cool if the weapons were broken. Then the companion would have to pick up a new one, use a different one, and the loot of ammo would be very usefull

The only problem I'd see, is that companions are stupid. They don't switch weapons based on the situation, they don't try to get into good position to fire. All they do is see an enemy and start shooting even if they have a limited chance to hit. My current game, Cait is running around with a shotgun. She'll use it from street level firing up at an enemy that is 3 stories above her... obviously not the best use of a shotgun. Without limited ammo she'd be running out pretty quickly.

really weird.. i'l fix it, it's 5 minutes of work, but got no my pc under hand

about 'companion loot ammo'

if u'l check 'race' - 'human' at some tab there is 'can pickup items' checkbox.,

so if it disabled they are don't pickup anything,

if enabled - they pickup, but not all, just weapons., this way there somewhere 'databox' with weapons they can pickup (so if to add ammo there it will be pickuped too), or there some keywords at weapons that allow to human to take it

need to check it)

have start to make weapon degradation btw

hate fallout 4 )

I agree with you there, companions can be pretty stupid in some situations and they're especially stupid about cover. All around though, I find assault rifles are great for both short and long range. Location and terrain would definitely need to be taken into account by the player beforehand.

If nothing else it would be good enough if they ONLY picked up the required ammo for their currently-equipped weapon or the last one that was equipped before ammo ran out. I suppose the companion themselves wouldn't need to physically pick up the ammo, it just gets divvied up and un-reclaimable as soon as the player loots ammo of that certain type.

I wish companions would pick up Ammo and weapons, to be honest. Perhaps even armor. There could be a switch for you to decide wether they put on better armor of their own or not.

Yeah, the concept could definitely be expanded to weapons, caps, and chems. Armor may be tricky though. As JagMaker said, the game needs weapon (and armor IMO) degradation which would really add a fun dynamic to a potential mod like this.
