Xeniorn
Can anyone make me a static model that looks like a floating island and is jagged on the edges? :help:
k_fishburne
Sure. I need some more details though: 1) How many polygons total? 2) What shape should the island be (overhead view)? 3) What kind of terrain should the surface be (mountains, hills, flat)? 4) What should the dimensions of the island be (unit height, width, depth)? I'd like to use custom textures but I need to refresh my memory on how to do that.
Xeniorn
It should be roughly square-shaped, size of a vivec canton with small hills, nothing too big. If you could make it look starry, that would be nice too.
Xeniorn
How much time do you need? I hoped to have it by next tuesday...
k_fishburne
I'm not sure how big a Vivec canton is (canyon?), but it can easily be scaled if the size is wrong, either in 3dsmax or in TESCS. What do you mean by making it look starry? I was thinking more along the lines of grassy on top and jagged rock on the bottom, like it was ripped from the earth. I'll just play around with it this week while I'm at work in my spare time. Shouldn't take all that long. Landscapes are relatively easy in 3dsmax. Xeniorn
Yes, smooth grassy hills on top and jagged rock on the bottom. When I said starry I meant it to have longer points and curved sides, look the attached file. Thx 4 everything.
k_fishburne
I've worked on it a couple of days and I have something that may be adequate. I'll send you pictures soon. It's slightly less than 50,000 polys and runs slow on the crappy MX420 I have at work. Should run fine on a good machine though. I used all custom textures and played it in the game to make sure everything was good. I need to retexture the rock on the bottom of the island to look less tiled at long distances, but after that I'm done. I can still make modifications but it'd be better if they were about textures or noise levels.
ohGr
ouch, if it runs slow on a mx460 (which is a questionable video card, due to the vertex shaders yet no pixel shaders) then itll run slow on a average computer, im running a radeon 9000 (eqivilerant to a geforce 3 ti500) and i get slowdowns with the grass im working on, individual blades of grass, textured and all, and i get a lot of lag in busy areas, normally in places with 10+ or more NPC's, but it runs fine, now if i can get those bloody screenshots working properly <_< did you smoothen the mesh or just twist it from a box and leave it be? Xeniorn
That's OK with me, I have a monster of a computer. By the way, where did you get 3ds max? Are there any downloadable demos?
ohGr
yeah, at the discreet site, i forget links so search through google, a big download from what i hear, but its worth the 20-30 days they give you.
