KurganSPK
Is it possible to get a smooth game, heavily modded on Win 10? I have a solid, new Win 10 machine - 1080, 32gb RAM, core i7-7700, etc. Lots of modding experience with Oldrim on my Win 7 machine. Decided recently to do "one more build" on my new rig to compare to an SE build I did... I adore the results, but am stumped by hitching and random FPS drops. I run an intense ENB - True Vision - and I've been scouring the 'net for tips and tricks to what seems like a common issue, but with no common solutions. It's very weird... I'll get all sorts of stuttering and hitching in third person view next to walls, in corners of dungeons, around lots of NPCs in a fight... then I'll fast travel somewhere and the game suddenly runs like a dream for a hour or so... butter smooth, then get random FPS spikes for seemingly no apparent reason and then hitching using the third person camera to rotate around my character. Just really want to know if anyone's been able to get a rock solid, smooth, heavily modded oldrim game on Win 10 64 bit. So I at least know I'm not wasting my time trying... thx! And yes I've bashed and looted - game itself is very stable.... but this 50fps to 14fps for no apparent reason thing is vexing! You are trying to run a legacy Direct X 9C game, and in order to get proper performance the legacy API layers need to be added on the new install. If you follow STEP Wiki Install to a tee. There are two native Direct X installers that should be run, C++ 2015 and NET Framework are required. Truevison has been optimized to the 2.92 binary. It is older and has issues with memory hole behavior, also the latest ENB is 3.14. Unless something has changed recently Boris, does not support Win X. However there are a few workarounds out there. Would try to find a newer/better ENB. Edited August 15, 2017 by Reynard131

KurganSPK
I changed the enb to Tetrachromic... not sure I like it may be too over the top for me. However, perf is definitely better, game is smoother overall and so far no CTDs over a couple hours - I still get FPS drops from 60 to low teens walking around whiterun.... I can probably live with this but the OCD part of me would like to find a solution. Edited August 15, 2017 by KurganSPK
KurganSPK
Well I followed a lot of the settings here: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/74427/? And what do you know! Pretty darn smooth game right now. I still get fps drops in Whiterun with lots of NPCs, but I'm running lots of NPC affecting mods... and very very occasional hitches outside in combat when changing spells or weapons. Otherwise it's butter - and most importantly.. not a single CTD so far. Woot! (I did not update .net framework or c++) Edited August 15, 2017 by KurganSPK

You might try the newer version of Realvision it is designed towork with COT 5 it works well with the most recent binary you might have to adjust the brightness in the editor but it is simple tweak.I use Claralux with it and it is really excellent... One other item that is truly a total overhaul of textures the 09B Full will truly blow you away.. http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/61995/? Perf wise it is great and I'm growing to like the look of it. Plus, I've used CoT before and want to try something different this time around. Tamriel Reloaded does look excellent, I do have a ton of texture overhauls installed but might toss this in to "see what happens" thx for the tip! I've heard of it but hadn't checked it out for a while and have never had a playthrough with it. I've been a Noble Skyrim fan, but have Skyrim HD with various parallax mods at the moment. I found that Noble Skyrim, caused some performance issues and found Tamriel Reloaded HD, adds numerous trees and other objects and has minimal impact especially if you significantly increase the LOD draw and eliminate asset load stutter. But... I am getting very long load times going from exterior cell to interior - several minutes long - with frozen loading screens and blue circle cursor that is animated. Game loads, eventually.... I remember doing something that fixed this before with a different build but can't seem to recall what it was. Any ideas? Oh and how exactly does one "eliminate asset load stutter" ? bonewax
Is it possible to get a heavily modded smooth game in win 10? Absolutely. I just uploaded this video i did in win10 i run about 80 mods, not sure if that counts as "heavily" but i can keep a solid 60fps in the world, 40-50 in cities. I run vsync off with a frame limiter in the enb set to around 70fps to compensate for the fps loss during recording. I run tetrachromatic as well. Its not about how many mods you run its really about setting up your enb to be efficient. https://youtu.be/Pv8qZzVkBWE
