Building a Simple Fetch Quest

Recommended Posts

Hey, I'm brand new to assembling CK quests. I'm working with Fallout 4 and would love to deeply understand a process that presently just looks like opening windows over top of more windows until my eyes cross. I'd love suggestions, high-level explanations or links to great tutorials that may help me.

Presently I'm following this one on CreationKit.com but I seem to overlook something critical here because my NPC does not make it through to the dialog options when I prompt her. She just says "hi".

Thank you in advance.

Seems its not progressing to the next scene. Have you selected the 'Start Scene' ? Or maybe you ticked 'end running scene'.

I created this for a custom vendor:

-Starts with a random question.

-Some npc/player dialog.

-Opens or doesn't open up the trade.

I followed this tutorial:

I almost had it. "Requires player activation" seemed to get the choice to start but none of the text was firing for either myself or the NPC as we spoke. I watched Seddon's video and in tweaking things after that I fouled everything up so none of it works now. I tried to delete the quest and build it yet again and it doesn't even seem to delete just pop up a ton of warnings.

It's really annoying that this is only halfway through the tutorial series. Maybe I should just find another.

So I ultimately did get this. Seddon's videos are really good. Thanks for the help. I got far there's just so many fiddly bits that I never got anywhere without making a ton of mistakes first. Random responses, persuasion, branching conversations... I eventually had a stupid Seddon NPC who I could bully about his looks. Humorously, I was so satisfied I went and built some of this into my mod so my character would tell her story.

Happy ending right? Until I put in a second NPC with much simpler more random lines. I copied her from the first, it should have been fool proof! (I need that apparently) Now they both speak as though they're the second NPC. <insert deep sigh here>

It really is impressive all you can do with this but I feel like what this system desperately needs is a simple thread of logic you can follow so that you don't get overwhelmed by the opening and closing of a million windows. Maybe a visualization of how the process has you digging down into particular lines, maybe the window should change tint to illustrate how you're digging down a layer deeper into the same piece. It really does seem like this is the meaty center of working with creation kit so it seems worth the time considering how to make it clear. Thanks again for the help.
