toastysquirrel
I'm new to 3D modeling and based on advice and available tutorials I've decided to start using Blender to create armor models for Skyrim. Basically I need some advice from anyone with the experience. I started using Blender 2.62. However it appears that the Nif Script isn't compatible with versions more recent than Blender 2.49. So what do I do? Scrap 2.62 and start familiarizing myself with 2.49? Or is there a viable work around that allows us to import .NIFs into 2.62? Because of the available tutorials I've come across for creating armor, I'd really like to stick with using Blender. If anyone else has been down this path and found a way to adapt I'd really REALLY appreciate the input. I totally can't wait to start creating some armor mods! :)
Perked
You need to read through this. It's a great article that details all the resources and software you need, how to properly import meshes into Blender, and then how to fix the exported ones for use in Skyrim. http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=3790 It doesn't cover the actual editing of the mesh in blender, because any generic blender tutorial will provide that information. Once you get to the stage you have your mesh imported into Blender, look at video tutorials on youtube of how to use blender to actually do that. Perked
There is also this resource, which I haven't used but seems to give more detail and is a more thorough tutorial. Since you're a beginner, this tutorial will probably be more suitable: http://wiki.tesnexus.com/index.php/Creating_an_armour_for_Skyrim._Part_1
dvda1987
If I want to change an existing armor, do I have to import the basebody or is the armor (that shows skin) enough?
ChampionOfHircine
I have both 2.49 and 2.63. It's pretty easy actually. You import to 2.49, save as a .blend file, then open it in 2.63. When you export, you just have to check the "save as legacy format" box on the save menu, then you can open it in 2.49 to export. I can't tell you much about making armor though as I only know how to make static models.
