Lefthandovgod661
A few months ago i bought me a brand new PC and was eager to start modding skyrim and playing how i wanted. Low and behold, i did't realize how frustrating it is for an impatient person like myself. Although i didn't plan on working this much, but life hits you hard sometimes. Anyways, i got right to it, started DL mods and learning little by little, and having alot of fun it was awesome to play how skyrim should have been made to play.Though mods began to conflict and messed up some files i had to restart so many times delete saves, and start over it got messy, but thats only the beginning. after a while i had to uninstall and reinstall which is what i found to do if the game messes up. So i did, and Re-DL skyrim. I started anew and everything was fine, until i noticed small glitches, so i tweaked them out, and what happens BOOM! f*#@ed up my whole game, faces were missing, and all that s#*!. I freaked out and didn't know what i had done. out of anger and frustration, i just wanted to start over and make a brand new vanilla skyrim and start over. I uninstalled NMM and skyrim, reinstalled them but the files ended up installing somewhere else, which im not very familiar with mods and BS. .ini. ext. SS 987-97 kinda nerd talk, im not very clever when it comes to PC's. anyways, i tried my best to figure out what i did, which i knew i f*#@ed up, but now my files are everywhere, i tried finding them and putting them all into one file so i could easily find them. And when exploring through my PC i find more and more files, and i have no idea which files are the right ones, or wtf im doing, i really have no clue.I wanted to just start over after leaving it alone for a while i thought i'd try and fix it or figure it out on my own now that i have some extra downtime from work. I started to fiddle with the files and look around and try and install manually since the files got scrambled and have no idea where everything is or which files are the right ones. When things didn't work i repeated my self and uninstalled nexus mod manager and skyrim again... now i cant install skyrim at all because of missing data files dragonbown.bsa or something like that. All i wanted to do was restart everything and clean out my PC of all those mod files and return skyrim back to its vanilla self that way i could just play and do things the right way.At this point i have no idea what to do other than drink, put on the thong song and tear my PC apart... I know i made alot of stupid mistakes, i should have taken the right steps. But being eager to play as i wanted and experience mods, i thought it was as easy as they made it sound on the Nexus... frankly it wasn't the case. If anyone has info or any advice please leave a comment, or inform me of what i should do... i don't want my PC frying out or it f*#@ing up anymore than it already is. Thanks and much appreciated. Kroekr
NMM and Steam should not be located (default install location) inside your Program Files directory. This will cause UAC (permissions) problems and make Fabio look like Telly Savalas.NMM and steam need to be on the same hard drive. After uninstalling, go to your appdata directory under Users and make sure Steam and NMM no longer exist there. Also same for your my documents\my games folder Reinstall as noted above and see if that helps.
Fkemman11
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common and delete your Skyrim folder. Reinstall your game from Steam and then run it once to generate your ini files. After that reinstall NMM and let it find your Skyrim folder. Run your game again to be sure. After that look for Gopher's Skyrim modding guide on utube. Pay close attention to what you are doing when installing things. When you start installing mods, use the top 100 here on Nexus as sort of a guideline to what you need. For instance, texture mods do not require SKSE (Skyrim script extender) or FNIS (Fore's New Idles). But many others do require you to use these. Just take things slowly and make sure you install correctly this time. If you do have problems- DO NOT PANIC!! Finding and fixing a problem with mods does not require you to start uninstalling/ deleting everything. I use the method of unticking the esps 5 at a time on a new char until I find the problem mod- if it is a mod. It is a process of narrowing it down to the troublesome mod or whatever. Keep in mind that NMM does not always install mods correctly the first time- especially large ones. When you find a mod acting up, just right click on the mod and choose reinstall. After that if you still have problems with a mod, go to the mods web page and look for solutions. LOOT, TES5Edit, and Wryebash are tools you will need if you intend to run many mods. There are good vids on each of these to show the way to use them. Good luck.
