Mystery1579
I imagine that the primary point would be that, for the past ~600 years, they've all been taught the same language. In a world such as Skyrim, where I imagine it would be rare for someone to live into 70s, and most probably have kids around 20, that's a lot of generations. 30, to be exact. Now, I'm going to use the Romans as the real life example of the Cyrodiilic Empire. They're primary language was, of course, Romance. Now, everyone who wanted to do business with any of the main Romans had to use their language. This language was taught to their kids so their kids could have a good future in their line of business. The same was given to anyone who had the resources and the skills to teach the kid the new language, so that their child may have a better future. Now, this is forsaking the fact that, before the Cyrodiilic Empire was established by Mr. Tiber Septim, the majority of the races of men kept in contact regardless. They were all descendants of one race, the Nedes, and their individual languages, if there were some, were probably similar (I'm going to use Italian, French, Spanish, etc as an example for this one. They all have their roots in Romance, and they're all pretty similar. I know French, and can have a decent discussion with a Spanish speaker, as long as we keep to simple words). Now, when the other races had to conform, it probably wasn't that hard. Now, Redguards would be the one exception, seeing as they came from Yokuda instead. However, we've never really had much insight into the Hammerfell lifestyle, so I can't really go there. ^Taken from Reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/skyrim/comments/qyplm/why_the_hell_does_everyone_speak_the_same/ I like to think that the lingua franca of the Empire in the 4th Era is something akin to Renaissance Italian, and that during the Septim Empire, the lingua franca was more similar to Latin (reflecting change in language). You can actually see this change in Skyrim, as Imperials have more Italian sounding names (Vittoria Vici, Sevario Pelagia).Of course the provinces of the Empire have their own languages, but they still all speak the Imperial toungue, and because the Septim empire ruled over all of Tamriel, the rest of the provinces can speak Imperial [cyrodillic] too (and they would have to, in order to talk to anyone from the Empire).^Taken from Reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/teslore/comments/3kuasl/is_there_a_name_for_the_language_everybody_speaks/ Is Cyrodillic the same as Tamriellic? Some say yes, some say no. If Cyrodillic is English, this would make perfect sense. English comes from England like Cyrodillic comes from Cyrodil. Due to the influence everyone speaks it, and therefore it is spoken all over the continent, dubbing it Tamriellic. However, could it be Tamriellic is a type of Cyrodillic Creole/Pidgin/Dialect?Which one sounds more correct? Side note: Imperials are Romans right? they're names, architecture, empire ect.
