Skyrim Creation Kit, editing item stats

Is it possible to edit the stats of an item without making a completely new item? every time I edit an item's stats in CK it just creates a duplicate. Anyone else having the same experience?

Forgive me if you already do this, but if it asks you if you want to create a new form, choose no.

You should just be able to double click on an item change the stats and then hit okay.

Then you save it as an esp and enable it using a mod manager.

Your changes should then be in effect when playing Skyrim.

 

Not sure what the problem is if that isn't working.

Yeah I can edit them but when I go into the game the changes aren't saved, and when I look in the CK the game has basically just made a duplicate of the edited item and reverted back to its original stats :wallbash: .

This is the way I've been doing it for Fallout 3 and Skyrim.

 

Find the item in the creation kit.

Double click to edit.

Change the stats I want, hit OK. ( don't need to mess with any I.D.s for the item, just the stats you want to change.)

Then save it on the same .esp file the item is on or it wont work.
