Nofsdad
Well, here I am, third day in a row and I still can't play my game (Fallout New Vegas) and not a word back from Steam. I have made some progress though... I can now can at least get the launcher to start, pick all my options and like that there. I guess that means that Steam knows I'm at least entitled to play the game, whether I can do so or not. The only thing that doesn't work is the game. It crashes on the initial load after hitting play even with no other programs or mods installed. I probably should make one thing clear here... this is NOT a new game either to me or to this computer. I had been playing it on Steam daily for months now and had over 900 hours on it. The problems all came about when I moved my Steam application to a different directory on my computer (getting away from the dreaded Program Files in Win 7) and Steam insisted that I download everything all over again and start from scratch. I had to sign on as if from an entirely different computer (not the case). While I was none too happy about having to start all over again, right now I would dearly LOVE for a chance to start all over again. All I have at this point is a working Steam account and a game I can't play. I'm hoping someone can tell me what I can do to play my game again. I'm confined to a wheel chair and breathing equipment and this game is one of my few simple pleasures in life. Right now I can bring up the launcher but when I hit play it loads for a bit and then crashes to the desktop before the game opens. As I said, I've been playing this game on this computer for months now sometimes with 40 or 50 mods installed and while I've had some glitches, it was never anything I couldn't fix or work around. Now it won't play even in a total bare bones configuration. Thanks for any suggestions. I'd sure like to get back to this.
kevkiev
Maybe you already tried this, and this might be the pat answer you get when steam support gets back to you, but I thought I'd post this link from steam's trouble-shooting section: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7418-YUBN-8129 in case it proves to be of some use, especially the part at the end "if you encounter any errors..." Thanks. Right now I'm ready to try anything. I did get another email from Steam saying they'd get back to me later via email.
