nightscrawl
So... regardless if its a normal... if the diffuse (a tree bark) HAS NO ALPHA... the normal of that bark SHOULDN'T be saved with alpha (DX5), right???Now I'm getting it - the normal map creation. No, you misunderstand me. If any texture doesn't have an alpha, it should be saved in DXT1. A typical diffuse isn't going to have an alpha, unless there is transparency, like cutting out leaves or something. Most of the normals in Skyrim SE do have alpha maps because they determine the shine. Let's take a default tree bark -- treepineforestbarkcomp. Because it's just bark, it doesn't need transparency, so that is saved in DXT1.Now look at the normal -- treepineforestbarkcomp_n. That does have an alpha map to determine shine, so that is saved in DXT5 (or BC7).
thumbincubation
I'm sorry for any confusion. This isn't something I'm really strong in. I didn't mean to change the actual file size at all, just to zoom out some, so you can see that your eraser tool will cover the entire thing. I do that because I have had problems with "streaks," when I've tried to erase with a smaller brush.
