Firedshot
To start i'm a noob at modding TES but i have experiance with Q3 radiant map making which for now seems so much easier. Why is it when learning something new it's always the very start that cause's the main problems? The problem. I've been watching the secound tutorial video on how to make my first dungeon and the guy clears all the old cell blocks and pulls in a wall. He then duplicates this wall and use's snap to to place the next wall perfectly inline. He then creates a corner which he drags in and it apears on the same axis as the orginal peace. My troubles, snap to doesn't not seem to work at all. I place the item move it to 0 on all axis and then duplicate. The new peace after moving is never quite lined up and when i add the corner is always above the orginal peace. I have snap to turned on and i have tryed shift q on the orginal peace. I know hitting F gets the corner peace to the same level but in the tutorial it is automaticaly at the same level? Also when i change the snap to ratio say from 1,8,32,128 it always remains the same? So please some one tell me where i'm going wrong so that i can face palm and call myself an idiot :)
Tamb0
When you place your very first object, always double check that X, Y, and Z are set to zero. When you drag a new object in from the object window, make sure the cursor is on the bottom (the base) of a previously placed item, befire letting the mouse button go. This will set the height to match. Almost forgot, Check that your preferences are set up properly. Right click in the render window and select Render Window Properties. At the bottom left there is a check box that says Create Refs At Drop Target. Make sure there's a tick in it.
flobalob
Regarding the snap ref, I would sugest NOT using shift Q to set the snap reference unless you absolutely have to use it because you are working on room sections that are off the normal grid. Notice that in the Bethesda tutorial where the dude was creating a cave he used the NORMAL grid snap until AFTER rotating the entire cave room (all 16 cave sections together). Most of the time it is advisable to stick to using the normal snap grid based on absolute co-ordinates so if you have a snap of 64 then objects will always have x, y & z co-ordinates in multiples of that. With regards to your specific problem I would ask, have you set the snap grid to a power of 2. 2,4,8,16,32 etc? As any other values will have strange results, most room sections work well on a snap of 64, although multi level room sections may require dropping the snap to 32 to get the second floor at the correct height. Tamb0
I see what is happening. You are actually dropping the next piece on top of a wall, not the base. The wall is invisible when viewed directly from above. When building a dungeon, it's better to get a 3D isometric view. this will help you see 'hidden obstacles that you will not see directly from above. When you start, after placing your first object, hold the shift key and move the mouse around to get a better perspective. Then place your second object by releasing on the base. Hopefully, this fixes things for you. [Edit]I managed to duplicate your problem. But, when I check the X, Y an Z position of the object, they all end in.0000. Maybe you have another problem elsewhere. Edited March 4, 2012 by Tamb0
flobalob
Have you used the Snap to Reference at any time (activated with Shift+Q). If so (or just to be sure) press Shift+Q and click on the grey void to return the Snap to Reference to the normal game world setting/
