How do I check which mods use F4SE and which dont?

Hi,

As many of you may know, there has been a recent update to Fallout 4 pertaining that paid mods 2.0 scandal bulls*** and anyway because of the new update, you'll have to update F4SE which isn't an issue as I have already done that, downloaded the new file, extracted it to my desktop, and copy and pasted the select 3 .dll files i needed in to my fallout 4 directory only after deleting the previous 3. Everything is up to date but it still says it isnt and when I try to launch Fallout 4 VIA Mod Organizer using F4SE, it pops up a little window titled "Game Version Error" and says in the window "HUD Extension game error: expected game version 1.9.4.0 your game version 1.10.20.0 some features may not work correctly". When it loads the game I get an immediate CTD, it says "Fallout 4 has stopped working". So my thinking is that I need to update all of my mods that use F4SE... but the problem is i currently have around 160 to 180 or so mods and as you can tell, trying to find out which ones use F4SE and which dont, so i can update the ones using F4SE, would be a big issue. anyway thanks for your time and if you need my system specs/mods list or anything like that let me know.

Sincerely,

NinjahhYT

UPDATE!: So I've went through and made sure that all the versions of my mods are up to date. I've figured out that the problem isn't that mods that use F4SE are outdated, It's simply F4SE thinking that it should be using version 1.9.4.0 instead of 1.10.20.0

Edit: It's definitely F4SE because I've launched the game with every single mod I have installed, disabled, and trying to launch it through F4SE crashed on startup. but without F4SE it runs perfectly fine. So the question is now, how do I get F4SE to recognize that it's being a f*#@ing moron?

which version of F4SE are you using. because they state on their page the following:

F4SE will support the latest version of Fallout available on Steam, and _only_ this version.

though, each F4SE Version support only a specific fallout4.exe Version. the latest version 0.5.0 supports fallout4.exe 1.10.20.0. Edited by maverikch

I have been playing Fallout 4 with 1.10.20 and the script extender since it was released. I even use the updated Place Everywhere. Which I'm doing to decode both the normal save game and the .f4se cosave. So it works perfectly. Have you closed Steam, opened Steam, and ran F4SE? What do you use to manage your mods?

You listed these steps.

1. Download F4SE Fallout 4 runtime 1.10.20 - build: 0.5.0

2. Extract files to Desktop (or temp folder)

3. Copy f4se_1_10_20.dll, f4se_loader.exe, f4se_steam_loader.dll to the C:\[steam Path]\common\Fallout 4 folder.

He said he gets an error about a version mismatch. Now, if those are the same steps you did they are incorrect!!!

Correct Steps:

1. Download F4SE Fallout 4 runtime 1.10.20 - build: 0.5.0

2. Extract files to Desktop (or temp folder)

3. Go to your C:\[steam Path]\common\Fallout 4 folder and delete all files that start with f4se, such as f4se_loader.exe, f4se_steam_loader.dll, f4se_1_9_4.dll, f4se_1_8_7.dll, and any other old versions left in that folder. <- very important

4. Copy the new files, f4se_1_10_20.dll, f4se_loader.exe, f4se_steam_loader.dll to the C:\[steam Path]\common\Fallout 4 folder.

5. copy the included Scripts folder from the download to your Data folder. <- Important

I did everything as you said to and it still doesn't recognize my game update. I'm using Mod organizer, I have restarted steam. I even deleted all of the F4SE files in my Fallout 4 install location and re-copy and pasted them in, I have ran F4SE through the F4SE_Loader.exe file and it just black screens. F4SE is up to date and so is my fallout install. But it still says that it expected the game file to be update 1.9.4.0.

But it still says that it expected the game file to be update 1.9.4.0.

well what version does your fallout4.exe say in the file properties /details tab of your fallout 4 game felder?

and what does the F4SE_Loader.exe give you kind of version?

if fallout4.exe = 1.10.20.0 and F4SE_Loader.exe = 0.0.5.0 - you're good version technically.

maybe deleting all the files in the fallout 4 game folder (only the root folder, not subfolders), running a the Integrity of Game Files Verification over Steam and installing the F4SE anew does the trick.

update: stumbled upon this thread in the steam community.

please verify the message box exactly. i think its not F4SE that requires the fallout4.exe 1.9.4.0 but more likely a mod that relies on F4SE.

if that is so. you need to update that specific mod. if the mod has no update for F4SE 0.5.0 you will need to deactivate it.

  • 2 weeks later...

Okay so first of all, sorry I've been away for a while. Second of all, I've deleted all my files in my Fallout 4 game directory, but not the subfolders and verified the integrity of my game cache, redownloaded F4SE and it still didn't work. However I'm using Mod Organizer and I've disabled all of my mods, about 100 or so and it worked fine. I also have a few downloaded through the in game mod interface, but we don't need to worry about that because disabling the mods from the nexus made it run fine. My problem now becomes "what mod/mods are breaking my game" instead of "F4SE is dumb and doesn't understand my game files". So if there is an easy way to detect what mods use F4SE and what don't then I could easily try and redownload all the ones that do, instead of going through about 100 mods or so and trying to update each and every one. Also since I'm using Mod Organizer, you might think to yourself "Well gee, couldn't you just check the version of each mod to the right of the mods list?" Well no, and that's because I've already gone through and checked all the mods version and there are only a few that say they're an old version, and every single one that says it's using an old version is only because of optional files that I've downloaded to either patch it or add additional features, and that version of the patch is for example version "1.0" and the main file is considered version "1.1" and because of the fact that I have to download the patch second for these select few mods, it tricks Mod Organizer into thinking that I have an old version. Anyway, again if there is anyway to easily check which mods use F4SE and which don't then that would be amazing, but as for right now, I'm gonna have a fun time disabling mods until one finally works.

Thanks for your guy's help.
