drakeotomy
I've been looking at minor conflicts between mods in xEdit, and I've found several that have the same content of the conflicting cells in the table, but when other cells have the same content, it's not a conflict... The first one I found is Cell/Block 2/Sub-Block 4/00072FFE Solitude The XOWN - Owner line all say ThalmorFaction "Thalmor [FACT:00039F26] for multiple mods, but it's counted as a conflict. Yet any other lines with the same content for each mod are not. Just wondering if I'm going mad, or if xEdit is wrong, or what. I'm semi experienced in modding my game, just not mod making, or what goes into it. If this could be explained to me without too much trouble, I'd be grateful. PeterMartyr
There no easy answer to this, just experience, that will literary takes years to accumulate. First thing modding any Reference, is a Conflict, so Green or Orange can be bad & red can be good, it all depends the finished product that your after. It not cut & dry like you think. So Red mean it just losing with extreme prejudice, so do want that Ref to win or lose? If don't want it to win? How can it be bad? So Green or Orange means it's winning, but if you don't ref to win. See where is is going....... For a Noobie, Just Use Loot to sort load to sort your load order & Deal by learning to make Compatible Patches. The rest will flow naturally has you accumulate knowledge. To sum up this what Green means to me. Skyrim is Conflicted, but the Mod conflicting with Skyrim is un-conflicted. Do want that conflict? Nevertheless that is not set in concrete. I judge it all on my Load Order Merits & what I am trying to achieve. Which means there is BILLIONS of combinations. What work for JACK may be a disaster for YOU. Sorry about that... but a least I was honest & didn't say make every thing green. Since in my experience I am far more likely to turn things RED. drakeotomy
Oh, I'm not having problems with load order or anything, and I'm aware how things get overwritten and counted as "conflicts". It's just that there are some lines that are considered conflicts even though other lines that appear similarly are not considered conflicts. I'm more confused by the apparent double standard than the mechanics of modding. So thanks for trying to explain, but that didn't really answer anything for the question I was outlining. Kapteyn
It's pretty much a matter of how many mods edit the same thing. For example, Update.esm makes an alteration and then a mod changes the same thing, both are different to the original Skyrim.esm - so you have two conflicts there and the winner is the one furthest down the load order. If on the other hand Update.esm didn't change anything so only the one mod is doing anything, it will be in different colouring to the above. The more mods you have changing the same thing, the more conflicts there will be and thus different text and background colours for each of them. Then there is consideration for whether you're talking about individual entries or the overall colour for a mod. So far as the text and background colour is concerned for each mod, the less red ones you have the better. Bear in mind that Update.esm, an unofficial update and also DLC should each be red text and background. However, what you're most concerned with are conflicts between actual mods, not the official data or updates. Thus, most of the red mods should be closer to the top, as you get down the list they should ideally be yellow background with green text or red background with orange text. In other words, if two unrelated mods are causing one or the other to go red/red then you have an unintended conflict which potentially needs to be addressed. You really can't avoid some conflicts, like for example Weapons & Armor Fixes will be red/red if you have Smithing Perks Overhaul. Patches for individual mods will likely do the same as well, such as the follower boost for Amazing Follower Tweaks. Check the information tab on the application...
