HoldMyEyes
I have been trying to succesfully mod and play Fallout 3 for 6 months now. I have finally got everything together but now FOSE is telling me that I need the latest version of Fallout 3, which is v1.7. I get this patch and install it, it still says the same thing. I thought "Hey there could be a problem with GAmes for windows Live" so I downloaded and installed the latest version of that as well. Nothing changed. I don't know if its Fallout 3 not patching correctly or FOSE is messing up. I got the latest patch for FO3 from bethesdas site. When I finish installing the update for v1.7 regular FO3 starts up and the menu seems fine. I have version 1.2 of FOSE and version 3.0 of Games for windows Live. I more question, is there anyone out there who actually plays FO3 modded with a bunch of big mods at the same time like FWE, MMM, Project beauty, EVE, and WMK? Because it is increasing surfacing in my head that it is impossible to do this. Really, if anyone has any sort of clue of how to fix this please help me. I just want to play FO3 modded, is that so hard to ask?
Eefluxx
Most people I think play a modded version of Fallout 3 without Games for windows live. There is a Games for windows live disabler on the nexus you can download. I would suggest trying that and see if it works.
7thsealord
Disabling G4WL did more to improve my game's reliability and performance than just about everything else put together. No exaggeration. Apparently, somebody at some stage thought G4WL was a good idea. I still can't believe that. GrindedStone
You should start by only installing FWE alone. Then run a test game for at least 3 hours of gameplay. If I were you I would run a test game for a week or longer. The reason why I mention it is because FWE is a very large mod, and it's also very dirty. When you create a mod the clicking an clacking, saving an loading often lock in extra data which may not have even been looked at by the modder much less edited. This data piles up over time until there is a large amount. When you are using more than one mod the amount of this data in each mod creates a total amount which directly lowers the stability of the game. You can clean the mods which is actually the mod creators job, but they forgot to before the uploaded it. In FWE's case the mod's main .esm isn't able to be saved in FO3 edit. This means you can not clean the mod, which also means you can not clean the rest of the mods that come with it in the generic FOIP. Anyone using these together will certianly have issues. While they will blame these issues on Fallout's problematic history the actual cause is the modders forgeting to clean the mods before uploading. If you are planing to go from the vault to broken steel, it isn't a good idea to use the whole generic FOIP load order.
