Custom Race Oddity

Hey everyone, I'm a bit new to modding, and am having a few small issues with a custom race mod.

I created a race built off of the wood elf, and followed the tutorial from Bethesda. Most of it went well, however, there are 2 issues I just don't understand.

1. When in SHOWRACEMENU in game, there are no hair options. I never messed with any of the hair styles in the creation kit, only the hair colors.

2. When in SHOWRACEMENU in game, there are no eye options. I never messed with any of the eyes in the creation kit, but am using another mod for more eye choices.

When I use the slider bar there are no options for either of the above, the slider just moves. I have deactivated the eye mod, thinking that could be the issue. However, it did not change.

I am creating this race, have added 4 new skin tones, deleted 2 of the stock wood elf tones, and altered 3 of the stock wood elf tones. Have added brighter warpaint and other colors for the warpaint as well, and changed some stats around. I will be adding warpaint(tattoos) to the face as well as some options for the chest/back. The race is a mix of wood elf and dark elf. Any help with the 2 above issues would be greatly appreciated. Again I am new, so trying to start with a semi simple mod and progress.

Thank you,

Dang, I thought for sure someone here would know how to fix this...

Yeah it looks like it can be done, but it's a PITA.

After searching for a bit, I found that you don't really add hair to your race, you add your race to the hair. The problem is that all vanilla races are set onto a form list which to my knowledge cannot be edited. You have to create a new formlist with your new race on it, then go in and manually add that new list to each hair(and eye, presumably) type.

I found this out whilst trying to add apachii hair to my custom race.

Now in your case, I believe there is a "morph race" button and if you set that to wood elf then, according to the wiki, your custom race will have all the headparts that the original race had. As to whether or not this is true I have not tested, as I threw in the towel when I figured how much time it would take to change everything.

Good luck!
