Havoc10K
... I'm seeing more and more replacer mods, I don't want to replace armor cuz enemies can have it as well, so why is there so much replace armor/weapon/clothes mods ? I thought there would be items to make instead of replacing. I am disappoint.
RitualBlack
Modders do what they prefer, you are downloading their work for free so you shouldn't complain  . You could always make your own standalone version of the armor/weapons so it doesn't replace anything. It is pretty simple to do when someone else has made the model and textures as well as set it up in Skyrim. All you would have to do is set up a few paths in the CK to the files as well as a in game location (or just item id) and you are all set  . eltucu
Just clone something vanilla, change the model, place in a leveled list, and you're done. You could even make an script to place the item in the leveled list if you fancy that route. Plus, a bunch of modders started that way, modding things for their own use, then started to share their personal mods, etc. You might discover something there :)
Lastito
some modder usually put a esp that doesn't replace vanilla armor, but well, some of them.
David Brasher
@ Havoc10K You are very right that these modders are not following best practices and should not be making texture replacers when they could be making mods that add different versions of items to the game. The only real reasons to make a texture replacer now are because you don't like the original item and want to make it high-res, or more realistic, or more aesthetically pleasing, or because you want to overhaul the game in some fashion. (Like you change all the guard armor to Storm Trooper armor or something because that's how you will always want it. Bad example. This second option would still be best as a mod with an .esp in case you get tired of Star Wars in Skyrim.)
jet4571
The modders that create armor texture replacers are just plain lazy as far as I am concerned. It is not a hard chore to make a new armor based on the original, add the crafting/upgrade recipe as well as put it in a chest or just drop them on the ground in the world. Though it will require some Nifskope work to change the texture filepaths but thats a minor step. and best practice is make the armor/recipe in a .esm file and it's placement in the world in a .esp so other modders can easily include it in another mod. Example lets say I liked a steel plate texture mod and wanted to use it for some guards in my mod, If the armor was in a .esm file I could load that as a master and create my guards default outfit using that armor. Then when I upload my mod with the guards I make a note that it requires that armor mod otherwise the guards will be naked.
Havoc10K
@ David Brasher Sound response at last, I accepted the replacers before the kit came out, because it was pretty much hexing to makea new item instead of just replace it.With the kit out it's like you said, just a few lazy clicks. Also, Storm Troopers originally came from Warhammer 40.000 Imperial Guardsmen :) Just an interesting fact :) On that note, I wouldn't mind some really nice stuff from Warhammer 40K in my Skyrim, like Sisters of Battle armor for females only and Blood Ravens Armor for Male :) At any rate, could I just do those modifications myself ? yes (fix the current mod that is)Should I do something that the original author could do easily ? NO ! It's not my mod, so I shouldn't touch it, updating the mod to standalone is a mod author's duty and privilege. If you're doing something, finish it. jet4571
I made my own 2 sets of armor(never uploaded them as they are incomplete and I fail at making an _1 version out of an _0), created 6 circlets, 4 shields and modified DizzasterJuice's Nightingale Elven Crafted Silver Mail as standalone sets all before the CK was released. If i could do that pre-CK and no hex editing then modders today have no excuse for replacers aside from pure laziness. Another useless fact about Star Wars and imperials, Darth Vader's costume was inspired by samurai armor.
Havoc10K
That's true :) So many things were inspired by Warhammer 40k :D Even starcraft :)
jet4571
Watch it Havoc10K most people here dont know that Warhammer 40K is about 40 years old and is just a few years younger than D&D.
