Texture mod problem

Hi guys,

I have been playing skryrim for quite some time now, since oldrim, but haven t really had this problem yet.

Like most people I am using a fair amount of mods and ofcourse also texture mods.

Since recenty i noticed that when I install small texture mods of one specific author, that my game crashes after a short while.

I am pretty sure it crashes soon as the modded items are getting rendered.

Not having this problem with installing texture mods of other authors, only the one specific guy. From my understanding texture mods should not crash your game. Specially not since the textures that were modded, weren t used in my modlist yet.

Can any one explain why such thing might happen?

Thanks in advance.

Are you finding the textures on the Oldrim page? And playing on SE now? If that's the case I'm thinking that the textures aren't compatible with the SE mesh it's supposed to "attach" to. But textures seem to be the least troublesome part of porting.

OP, you're obviously trying to be tactful by not mentioning the specific mod you think is giving you trouble, but you can't know for sure that it's that mod. You don't mention what you're looking at/trying to render, or what your other mods are. All of that has importance in trying to diagnose your problem. If you had a completely clean Skyrim SE installation and installed those textures, and then had a repeatable crash, then I could go along with it, but you don't say that.

More information is better, not less.

In general, texture-only mods should not be causing issues or crashes. Skyrim Special Edition supports DXT1, DXT5, and BC7. The only time you might experience problems is with landscape textures from Oldrim that don't have an alpha channel, but even then that wouldn't cause crashing; those would simply make the textures look "shiny."

Yes,I don't believe in smearing ones reputation. Specially since modmakers put a lot of time and effort into making the game more enjoyable for us. These days people just need a half word to take something to a whole new level of negativity.

But I still want to learn more about what could be causing this. Specially since it is not happening with other authors texture mods.

Well I am pretty sure its not only that one texture mod,its every texture mod of that author giving me the problem.

It happened for the first time when using his HD torch texture, coming near or using torches made the game crash. Uninstalled the mod, went back to a previous save to be sure and went on not thinking much of it.

A while after it happened with a Dawnbreaker texture that got updated by him ( did not have it equipped at the time but was in my bags. While scrolling down items and highlighting the Dawnbreaker or trying to equip it made the game crash). At first I thougt it was because of Bruma that I just updated. Was having Aleyd weapons in my bags. But after some searching when it was happening it turned out that the Dawnbreaker was causing it.

And recently I tried to use an HD texture for dirtcliffs. Soon as I started aproaching them,gamecrash...

So after that point I got curious and a bit annoyed about it. I thougt it had something to do with the packaging at first and contacted the author but myeh well... Came down to:texture mods don't crash your game and figure it out yourself.

Ha I know which author you mean. It is unlikely to be connected directly to the texture mods. You could check their pages and see if anyone else mentions it.

Depending on your graphics card its possible your using to much VRAM. Could be your load order. If your using LOOT its great but you will still need to correct a few mods.

What I would definitely use if your not already is SEE Fixes. Fantastic mod, makes a massive difference in game.
