Information relevant to work i'm doing

Right, now i'm going to be pretty bold now, and hope the mods and D0 are in a nice mood so they don't shut this thing down.

 

As a few people may have gathered from other threads, i'm attempting to write a series of stories based in ME. One is coming to its conclusion at the moment (or at least it was, until i read something really annoying on the EoA, which i shall go into later). Anyway, i have several (READ: fa'sands and fa'sands of 'em) questions about small bits of lore which i, the EoA, and the appendices of the books i own cannot answer. So, with this in mind, i thought of here, a vertiable fountain of random trivia that i can put to my evil purposes.

 

As you might have guested, i'll be posting them as and when they crop up in my writings, and i shall be praying (or at least i would if i was a religious guy) that someone on here knows the answer. The reason i suspect an annoyed mod might shut this down is because there is already a trivia thread, but that is different to this one, really. Its not soley for my purposes :)

 

Assuming this isn't closed down, lets start the ball rolling by informing you all of what piece i'm focused on at the moment. Basically, it surrounds Gil-Galad and Cirdan, and their defence and subsequent flight from Falas, the furthermost western point of Beleriand, more focusing on Gil-Galad. I'm thinking it'll go to around 75-100 pages, in size 12 Arial font, but that might change. I want to include things like Gil-Galad wanting to join his father at the Fifth Battle (i would use the Elvish name but i've forgotten how to spell it :( ).

 

The problems i've discovered so far are these:

 

1. Ereinion Gil-Galad is a young child/man when he enters Falas, which screws up my entire first chapter :angry2: (this is what i read on EoA, by the way)

 

2. Where oh where does Fingon live? It might be obvious to someone, but none of the text in the Silmarillion says it, as far as i know.

 

3. I have a rather acute lack of knowledge when it comes to clothes (if i read one joke about my fashion sense i'll find the person responsible and dress them in a sequined skirt with a leather jacket and march them down their high street), specifically the sort of clothes the denizens of Beleriand and/or Middle-Earth would wear. This includes both "civilian", ie casual clothes, and armour. I mean that i don't know the names of parts of clothing and armour i want to describe. Any help?

 

EDIT: 4. How do Elves meet? I mean, is there any sort of ritual or custom to it? Any kind of Vulcan hand-sign or such, or do they just walk up and shake hands?

See, i said that i would have more once i wrote some more.

 

Thats it for the moment, but give me about two hours of writing in the story and i'll have another long list for everyone to work on. Thanks for indulging this, but i would have a really hard time of it without this thread, assuming i get any replies at all. Thanks in advance guys :D
