ElQuesoBandito
Couple of questions about your machine: 1. Like ShadowSky said, desktop or laptop? From here on out, I will assume desktop. 2. What controler does your motherboard have for SSD's? Does it even support SSD's (I know you have been using it, but does the manufacturer explicitly state SSD are supported) 3. How is the SSD connected to the motherboard? I am assuming a SATA 3Gb or 6GB port and wire. 4. How old is the SSD and if you still have FO3 installed, does it still work like it always has? Now a couple of questions and suggestions about your harddrive/software: 1. When was the last time you cleaned up the SSD (Defrag, delete useless files, etc.) 2. Have you updated all your drivers? 3. Do you have Skyrim actually installed on the SSD? (Stupid question I know, but it has been known to happen) 4. Do you have your mods folder and mod magager stored on the SSD as well? The last two questions I asked could be part of the problem if you have your files spread over two drives. 1.laptop 2.it's on an AHCI connection 3.It's plugged into a SATA II port at 3Gb/s 4. I just got it january, FO3 works like it always has. 1. I regularly use CCleaner about once every week 2. Windows says all drivers are up to date. 3.SSD is only hard drive 4.^
ElQuesoBandito
Are those decktop or laptop specs? If decktop what motherboard are you using? What are your Skyrim Graphic Settings? A minute is a long load time, I have a regular harddrive and I'm up and running way under a minute....weird. I have Graphics at low with shadows completely disabled and actor fade at max
seanxx
Bigv32you asked "4. Do you have your mods folder and mod magager stored on the SSD as well?" Im just wondering is that a problem? because I have my NMM installed on my ssd (as well as skyrim of course) BUT the mod storage folder is on my slower regular HD. Should I have not done that? I thought the Mod Folder was where the NMM stored the mod zips and it didnt need to be on valuable fast ssd real estate . muttiniraq
Ok, just going to say this. For loading times, I would look very long and very hard as the very subpar i3 processor. Then having intel integrated graphics also does not help your case. The fact is you are going to face a hindrance in performance caused by your SLOWEST subsystem. Here, I would say that you have two subsystems that are not game friendly. The i3 and the intel integrated graphics. Before people say "Its not the graphics" These people need to consider that the graphics will share the same memory and regardless of the speed of your memory, the speed of the bus will determine how fast things actually go. Then split and move resources between crappy processor, graphics chip and low and behold you get subpar performance. You can try toning down resolutions and closing background tasks but my recommendation is building a cheap 400-500 amd computer (I7 would be so much better but I am aiming cheap) and running with it. If you need help, contact me directly and maybe I can tailor something to your needs at no cost(for my advice) Bill
muttiniraq
One last thing.....if you take nothing else away from this remember this.... DO Not Defragment your Solid State Drive. IT does nothing to help, also keep in mind that SSD has a limited number of read/write cycles and you could prematurely age your drive. There is no spinning disc to organize and optimize, solid state does not benefit from defragmentation. Because for some reason I actually care about people I don't know, I found you a link if you would like to read about it before listening. http://www.intel.com/support/ssdc/hpssd/sb/CS-029623.htm#5 Good luck and I hope that it all works out. I thought the Mod Folder was where the NMM stored the mod zips and it didnt need to be on valuable fast ssd real estate . Sorry its been a while since I could get online easily. It may slow the loading times initially by a little, but I was wondering if the OP was set up like that. I would not normally think it was this, but without actually seeing the machine in person, I thought it would be best to just ask every possibility lol. After looking at his information, the only thing I can think of is the fact it is a laptop on integrated graphics. I may be biased toward desktops, but in my experience, integrated graphics are even worse for gaming if they are on a laptop. To the original poster, I went back and reviewed how skyrim runs on my desktop and then installed and compared that to my laptop. There is a huge difference. (Note I removed my video card just to see what happened.) I take back my original thought that FO3 and Skyrim should be roughly comparable. On integrated graphics, I can now see why you are having trouble. Have you installed skyrim configurator and set all the settings to threaded? hangarspace
1. When was the last time you cleaned up the SSD (Defrag, delete useless files, etc.) NEVER defrag an SSD. Chris
