About Player Homes

Does anyone know of any player home mods that require the player to purchase them or do a quest or something? I loved a lot of the houses mods in Oblvion, and there were tons of them that the player could purchase, etc. I guess, RP wise, I just don't like the idea of a house magically appearing in the game world that I can just move on into with no work for it.

Also, does anyone know of any mods that are kind of like OOO was for Oblivion?

Both answers are that making mods of that nature take more time than just slapping a house together, it requires scripting and voice dialouge. Emma has one just above the solitude stables that you purchase, i am not sure what the URL is for it. and an overhaul like OOO could take about a year before it is ready for release.

Hmm, thats what I figured. I've actually been toying with the idea of doing some kind of housing project mod. Placing a "real estate" company in each hold. Each company office could sell deeds like vendors, and of course, the deed would act as a key, etc. Any house I would make would fall into a certain hold district, so the deed for that particular house would be bought from the company. Of course, there would be houses based on quests, etc, but I think that would streamline the ability to purchase homes that I would make. I dunno, maybe thats a dumb idea. But something like that.

As for OOO, I know it will be awhile, but I was just hoping someone was working on something like that. The closest i've found was PISE. Thanks for the info btw.

The real estate company idea i believe was being created, though I think the project was abandoned. it is actually a great idea to have both a deed and the key to the house. that way the houses could be placed in the world completely empty and you go to a real estate agent and he/she will bring you to one of the houses and let you in to look around. If you like the place then its back to the office and you buy it and then the upgrades. upgrades could include staff for the houses alongside furniture. If you steal the key while looking at the place then you could live in an empty house with maybe a chest in a corner with a bedroll, just ignore the cobwebs and bones on the floor, be sure to kill the skeevers before going to sleep.

There is literally hundreds of combinations you could do for each house and only have have 5 NPC's or there about required to mod to make them available, completely lore friendly, and will not bugger up the Jarl or stewards if someone else mods them.

Haha, guess I wasn't that original. Oh well. Those are some pretty good ideas. I was also thinking that, if I could ever figure out how, it would be cool to somehow "open source" the mod in order to make the process of adding buyable houses to the game easy. Simply open the mod, drop your house into it, and then submit your deed and key idea and have it added alongside all the other houses in the "vendor/real estate" inventory for review and purchase. I especially like your idea of having the ability to review the house before you purchase it, especially if a lot of houses were added to each hold. It wouldn't be fun to buy a castle for 150,000 only to find out that it was nothing like what you had wanted. The key would allow you in, but no chest, etc, would allow ownership until the deed was purchased. Mixed with Tytanis's farming mod, etc, you could sell farmland and things like that. I think I will start drawing up the framework for this... hmmm..

My mod Dovahheim does exactly this. It's nothing fancy yet -- very simple quest (go kill this one dude), and it yields you a very run-down shack where the bed doesn't even belong to you (although you can sleep in it, a shack that literally has holes in the walls and roof I didn't feel deserved to give you the Well Rested bonus, but you'll still get Rested just like normal), but the containers are safe and there's even guards roaming about. Soon, though, it will be expanded.

I think you'll love it RP-wise, at least when it's more developed, because at first nothing in the game world is any different except for one new NPC in Morthal. Later on you'll do quests and purchase upgrades to improve upon the town (it's more of a player-owned town than a player-owned house, but it includes a player house, and many of the town upgrades will yield tangible benefits to you as well -- such as the fully-equipped smithy in the next update), and the whole while I'm focused on keeping the whole thing as lore- and RP-friendly as I can.

Better yet, being that it's still an early WIP, you can help shape what it will become by contributing to the discussion thread!

That is EXACTLY the kind of mod I was looking for. Downloaded now. I will definately be keeping an eye on this one. Thanks and awesome idea.

My housing mod currently has 5 houses. three of them has a quest to go with them but I cannot get the actual quests to work. I stopped working on setting quest items and such up until i can get a simple quest to work. The main house you find a note at the door that gives you clues on where the key is at. you get the key and explore the house and find a journal. At this point you gain ownership. If the quest actually worked I would have continued it and have someone to go to to recruit staff for the place.

The next home is near riverwood with a note at the door inviting you inside. There you will be attacked by a necromancer who ofcourse you kill. Locked inside the house in a jail are 2 woman you rescue.

Third place is near hunters rest. along a road you discover a corpse, and on the corpse is a note saying an orc has taken over the house and has his sister inside. It asks you to kill the orc and rescue her.

The last 2 houses are just there. i haven't done any quest ideas for them yet so didn't bother locking any doors.. 3 of them are basically just houses and 2 have outbuildings and guards patrolling. The last one I made (Dock Side) will have a whole town next to it. I havnt started work on the town yet as i have just finished the house and outbuildings.
