Rvanbergen
Here's a question: What was "the Butcher" actually trying to do? Oh, right. Spoilers. You know, for a six year old game. Okay, now that that's out of the way... "The Butcher". Here's what the Elder Scrolls Wiki says about him. Calixto is a museum owner, dubbed :The Butcher" by Viola Giodano. He kills women to perform necromantic rituals, in the hopes of reanimating his dead sister, Lucilla. One of his victims was Friga, the twin sister of Nilsine Shatter-Shield. Before coming to Windhelm, he was an adventurer, traveling and collecting artifacts and oddities. He criticizes the college mages for dabbling in magic with which they are already familiar, glamorizing the possible innovations of necromancy. But what was he actually planning to do? I get that he wants to "Reanimate his sister", but how? And was he just crazy, or would that have actually worked? WastelandAssassin
If you read his journals , it does state that he's collecting specific organic materials (bones , marrow , blood and such) for some magic ritual .the journal claims that the ritual is older than human civilization , and it's based on Altmer texts (the end of the second journal)however , as to the actual magic ritual , and how it goes , the game is cryptic and uninformed (which may be great , as you wouldn't want the player to try and play Frankenstein , would you?)the game never really tells you whether or not this would actually workyou are just there to prevent it from happening , but as with most of the game , there is no consequence for not stopping Calixto (other than the death of another character if you've accused Wuunferth)there is no scenario where the ritual actually succeeds
