VexZero
So I recenty started a new game of DA:O (basically a week after finishing my first one), and most mods still work perfectly fine, but all the mods I have that add armor (Phoenix Armory, Hsli robes, RL's swan song) have this weird issue that equipping any of these armors on partymembers results in floating heads on an invisible body. They worked on my previous playthrough, they work on my player character, any mod weapons still look fine, they still work on partymembers if I load an old save from the last playthrough but I can't get them to work on this one. I already tried to turn the mods off and on, disabling any mods that change a partymembers appearance, and starting a new game without these mods and then activating them after the first save but I still got nothing. I'd appreciate any help.
theskymoves
Floating heads/invisible bodies generally result from missing or incorrectly assigned assets (the mesh) or more typically, an Item Variation ID conflict, where two mods use the same identifier out of the very limited pool of available. (See this post for a more coherent explanation of the latter, written when I'd actually had my second cup of coffee.) IIRC there are many mods which conflict with Hsli's, so that may be a place to start diagnosing the issue. (Install only one clothing/armor mod, see if it works. If it does, install another one, see if they work together. Etc, rinse and repeat.) Except.... that the gear still works on older saves but not in your current game is... very odd. *scratches head)
VexZero
IIRC there are many mods which conflict with Hsli's, so that may be a place to start diagnosing the issue. (Install only one clothing/armor mod, see if it works. If it does, install another one, see if they work together. Etc, rinse and repeat.) Thanks, but I just tried that and unfortunately I still have the same problem, no matter what armor mod I try.I even tried disabling all the non-armor mods and re-downloading the armor mod I use for testing (so I only have one single fresh armor mod in my override).Still the exact same problem (even down to the fact that it still works on my warden and in the old saves). It's the weirdest thing. (I guess one thing left to try would be to uninstall all mods, start over and play a completely clean game until the point where I have partymembers to try it on, but that'd be like 1-2 hours of prologue until Morrigan joins, all for something that isn't very likely to work, given what happened so far. At that rate I might as well re-install the entire game, which seems a bit much.)
theskymoves
That the mods work in old saves but not in your current games is really baffling, and I can't come up with any explanation other than 'blood magic'. The only other thing I can suggest is to check for garbage left behind by uninstalled mods. Depending on your mod management practices and what mod manager you are using (if any), there may be files left behind. (Though that wouldn't explain the disparity in behavior from old game/new game. :ermm:)
VexZero
That the mods work in old saves but not in your current games is really baffling, and I can't come up with any explanation other than 'blood magic'. My game being possessed by demons DOES seem increasingly likely at this point. Anyway, I use DAO-Modmanager, if that's any help at all.I tried removing/uninstalling literally every single mod-related file, leaving only the armor mod. Made the game crash everytime I tried to load my current save. And EVEN THEN my old save worked perfectly fine. Now, after exhaustive testing I managed to narrow down the file that caused my game to crash (it was probably a leftover file from a mod I tried and then immediately removed) and after adding it back I STILL had the problem with partymembers becoming floating heads.I figure that it's THIS specific file that causes the problem with my party, yet removing this file makes my current save crash everytime, thereby rendering it completely useless. So I'm basically back to the point where I'd have to play the entire prologue (until I'm out of Lothering) to check.Of course, it's still entirely possible that that's NOT the problem and I'm wasting my time. valerie1972
That they work on your PC and not on party members is just bizarre. I'm with tsm in voting "blood magic" as the cause. The only other thing I can think of is that Swan Song is a huge mod that loads lots of large graphics files, and if you haven't run something that allows DA to use more memory it can cause crashes all on its own. You might try running Large Address Aware on the off chance that it helps. It takes like twelve seconds to download and another twelve to run, so at least if it doesn't solve the problem you haven't wasted much time or effort. VexZero
Alright, I've finally done it.Started over and played through the entire prologue without mods and now it's working. No blood magic here, move along good templar. Thanks so much for the advice about the leftover mod garbage!I suspect that one file really was the problem. At least that's what I'll keep telling myself, because all this'd make absolutely no sense otherwise.
