Complete mining overhaul

Do any of you remember playing ultima online? Those were good times, you could choose to be a fighter, a mage, a thief, beggar, even a fisherman, store clerk, or miner. Basically you chose your destiny.

20-million years later, we're now in 2012 and a game that I believe is becoming even more addicting (especially with the mods) is well, Skyrim.

So what would a complete mining overhaul do?

#1 - Ore veins would have more than a single use, so you could mine for about 15-minutes if that's how much ore there were there

#2 - Skill-tree for mining would be required to mine and successfully get something

#3 - The higher your skill for mining, the better ore you can get, so bare bone it would be iron or something with a 2% chance.

#4 - Improve your mining skills by mining more, speaking with miners to enhance your craft, or purchase books on the subject.

#5 - Improved mines would have more than just one place to mine for ore, making it useful

#6 - Added smelter to only the major mines

#7 - Using a shovel around a ore vein could give you a chance of finding gems from nothing special to extraordinary

#8 - Lanterns could be placed and turned on in the mine (see wanted: compatible mods)

#9 - Unlit mines would exist (the abandoned ones) so #8 would be useful

#10 - The value of ingots are increased which also costs a lot for them too

#11 - Ingots to forge would require 2-8x the amount (setting?) but increase their worth

#12 - Reforging (see wanted: compatible mods)

#13 - Packed horse (see wanted: compatible mods)

#14 - Add the possibility of wild animals entering the mines

#15 - Forge creation

Wanted: Compatible Mods

The following mods are mods that I thought would be amazing to be used side-by-side with this potential mod:

A - Usable Lantern by Higeyosi

B - Horse-s Bags by Sagittarius22 (need a better one IMO)

C - Reforging (still looking for this mod, I've seen it before)

D - Long lost smelters of skyrim by Hyralux

E - Horses for followers

(Optional recommendation for immersion)

- Camping

- Realistic Running Speed

- Total Realism mod

- Real effect candle

Any suggestions? Is this a worthy mod to look into? Anyone bad enough to take this mod into their own hands? :)

Hey! I really like your idea for adding so much more depth to the mining. Picking up a pickaxe and hacking away immediately seemed a bit dull and didn't hold any weight to me from the start. I'm not sure if I could be the one to make this mod, but I'm honored to have my mod (Long lost smelters of Skyrim) be a partner for the awesomeness of this. Hopefully my comment will liven this suggestion back up.

Hey!

I certainly played my fair share of Ultima on a server called TDS if i remember correctly. It was great, my character was a Blakcsmith, Miner, Lumberjack and Carpenter. I think the perk tree is a brilliant idea. Logging, Mining and Hunting should all have either separate trees or be combined into one awesome tree. I would definitely be interested in this mod and like the OP miss the old days of grinding for resources. I'm currently working my way through the CK and if can make any contribution i will. I just wanted to chime in and say that this could make an incredible mod.

Well played sir, I will watch this one with great interest.

Blackrock dusted clothes anyone?
