Gemoll
Usually the game will crash the moment I press E. Sometimes I get a glimpse of the container menu before the crash happens (I haven't spotted any unusual items, or ones related to a particular mod). In one case (a dead Draugr) I could view the inventory, but the moment I moved the mouse or pressed an arrow key it would consistently crash.I've tried disabling every mod I can think of that adds items, Wrye Bash's bashed patch, and all interface mods, but the crashes persist. Most containers are fine, but the ones that do crash will always crash. However I've found that when going back to older saves for testing, the crashes when looting dead creatures would sometimes fix themselves. So I'd load a save right before a fight, kill the creature and loot it, and the game would consistently crash; but if I loaded a save from the start of the dungeon -- same cell, creatures already spawned, presumably -- it would be fine. Broken containers remain broken no matter what. So maybe I'm actually having two separate problems? :/Affected containers have included: A random dead Skeever (the others in the same room were fine), a random dead Draugr (ditto), a burial urn, and a large sack. Here's my load order. I'd be very grateful if someone could point me in the right direction. Or maybe there's a known issue with some mod that I'm unaware of? Edit: It's gems. Any gem will crash the game if I try to view it. If I add a gemstone to my inventory using the console and then try to open the "misc" tab, I get a CTD. Does anyone know what could be causing this? Also, is there some way to change your thread's title short of, like, reporting yourself and asking a moderator to do it? :huh:Edit: It's Distinct Interiors. Which seems bizarre, but there you go. On a new game with nothing enabled but Distinct Interiors and Alternate Start, gems will reliably crash the game. If I disable Distinct Interiors, the problem goes away. vov 0 0 Skyrim.esm 1 1 Update.esm 2 2 Dawnguard.esm 3 3 HearthFires.esm 4 4 Dragonborn.esm 5 5 Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch.esp 6 6 BSAssets.esm 7 7 BSHeartland.esm 8 8 BS_DLC_patch.esp 9 9 Campfire.esm 10 a SSE - Quartersized Textures.esm (I use Painterly ENB, so I can't see texture detail anyway, and this speeds up load times  ) 11 b Cutting Room Floor.esp BlendedRoads.esp 12 c dD - Realistic Ragdoll Force - Reduced.esp dD-No Spinning Death Animation.esp 13 d UnreadBooksGlow.esp 14 e beltfastenedquivers.esp RichMerchantsSkyrim_x2.esp 15 f ORM-Arvak.esp 16 10 BoundArmor.esp 17 11 No NPC Greetings.esp 18 12 Soulbug.esp 19 13 AskTheWay.esp 20 14 When Vampires Attack.esp 21 15 PyP_Legendary.esp 22 16 Distinct Interiors.esp YOT - Your Own Thoughts.esp 23 17 ApepiBetterCollege.esp 24 18 ImprovedRoads.esp 25 19 Increased Enemy Spawns - 2x.esp 26 1a Reverb and Ambiance Overhaul - Skyrim.esp 27 1b WZTamrielic Culture.esp 28 1c Settlements Expanded SE.esp 29 1d Skyrim Better Roads - The Rift.esp 30 1e SC08WayshrineTamriel.esp 31 1f ancient watchtowers.esp 32 20 Summermyst - Enchantments of Skyrim.esp 33 21 mrbs-uniqueloot-se.esp 34 22 CommonClothes.esp 35 23 Ordinator - Perks of Skyrim.esp 36 24 Thunderchild - Epic Shout Package.esp 37 25 Immersive Sounds - Compendium.esp 38 26 NAT.esp 39 27 UnlimitedBookshelves.esp 40 28 MoonAndStar_MAS.esp 41 29 Skyrim Better Roads - EastMarch.esp 42 2a CRF - Lighting Overhaul.esp 43 2b SimplyBiggerTreesSE.esp 44 2c ZIA_Complete Pack_V4.esp 45 2d Whitewatch Tower.esp 46 2e Windhelm Docks Pathways SE.esp 47 2f SPTDiverseGuardsSkyrimSE.esp 48 30 SPTDiverseGuardsSkyrimSEBruma.esp 49 31 Oblivion Gates Remade.esp 50 32 TSR_TeldrynSerious.esp 51 33 Skyrim Better Roads and Bridges - All In One - Merged.esp 52 34 Run For Your Lives.esp 53 35 Cloaks.esp 54 36 Raven Rock.esp 55 37 Inigo.esp 56 38 Dolmen Ruins.esp 57 39 Swamp - Poison bloom.esp 58 3a QaxeWinterholdRebuild.esp 59 3b Skyshards.esp 60 3c MainlandStalhrim.esp 61 3d PsijicTeleportSpells.esp 62 3e Skyrim Chimneys.esp 63 3f PatronGodsOfSkyrim.esp 64 40 notice board.esp 65 41 WheelsOfLull.esp 66 42 Cloaks - Dawnguard.esp Cloaks - USSEP Patch.esp 67 43 mihaildovahfly.esp 68 44 AK - Modesty Mod.esp 69 45 Perfect Legionnaire - Troops Re-equipment.esp JZBai_PracticalFemaleArmors.esp 70 46 Comprehensive Sleeves Pack.esp 71 47 Comprehensive Sleeves Pack - Ancient Nord Armor.esp Fusax2.esp 72 48 ExtendedStay.esp 73 49 PracticeSoulGemsNoPerks.esp 74 4a Heart Breaker SE.esp 75 4b sandboxcylinderheight.esp 76 4c Perk Point Awards.esp Level Rate -Slow And Steady.esp 77 4d Aurora - Standing Stones of Skyrim.esp 78 4e Prometheus_BeastSkeletons.esp 79 4f CMD Ashman's Rill.esp (One of my own, just a house mod. nightscrawl
Glad you got it worked out. But this just seems bizarre to me. How did you diagnose that it was Distinct Interiors? By disabling everything, and then enabling one-by-one? Did you ever enable the log in Skyrim.ini to see if it tells you what was causing it to crash? To enable the log, add these lines to Skyrim.ini [Papyrus] fPostLoadUpdateTimeMS=500.0 bEnableLogging=1 bEnableTrace=1 bLoadDebugInformation=1The next time you crash, a folder will be created in C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\My Games\Skyrim Special Edition\Logs\Script. Inside will be a bunch of .log files. The most recent one will contain your crash info. When viewing the files, it helps to use a program like Notepad++ so everything is formatted correctly. If you use Notepad, it will be a jumbled mess, difficult to read. All entries are timestamped, so you should see what happened right when the crash occurred. Of course, this doesn't always state the cause of a crash, so it's not a perfect solution, but it can be helpful.
cdcooley
Please don't spread this old myth. Skyrim doesn't have crash logs. The Papyrus log files tell you absolutely nothing about the cause of game crashes. They simply record messages (including errors) from the scripting system. When a crash occurs Papyrus is one of the first things to die so there's absolutely no way for it to tell you something about the crash. And worse yet turning the scripting logs on slows your system and is more likely to make your system crash. They only time you should have Papyrus logging turned on is when you are debugging scripting problems. I obviously thought it was a thing, since I've read about it here and there, on various places online, like this article. While it's true that that person doesn't necessarily have more knowledge than some other Skyrim user, having it presented it that way lends more authority than some random forum post. Such is the nature of the internet. I learned something, so I thank you for that, but I wasn't intentionally spreading misinformation.
Gemoll
Glad you got it worked out. But this just seems bizarre to me. How did you diagnose that it was Distinct Interiors? By disabling everything, and then enabling one-by-one? Yep. I decided to brute-force it because I was out of clever ideas. Fortunately Distinct Interiors was near the top of my load order, or I would still be at it. I agree that it's bizarre, but I can reliably reproduce the crash and haven't had a single one since removing DI. I've reported the bug, maybe the creators will have an idea. Such is the nature of the internet. I learned something, so I thank you for that, but I wasn't intentionally spreading misinformation. Years ago it was posted in the official Bethesda forums (that are now closed). There's information about the Papyrus settings in the Creation Kit wiki and there should be mentions about it in various sticky posts here on the NexusMods forums (but it's been so long since I've read those I can't point you to anything specific). The problem is that mis-information never seems to disappear and is always just a Google search away.
