Making my mod list compatible

I just bought a new rig solely for the purpose of running a modded out Skyrim. While there are thousands of great mods, I've narrowed it down to 228. There are others I'm interested in for other playthroughs, but for now I'll focus on these as a base.

Obviously my number one concern is compatibility. I don't particularly care if a feature from a mod is rendered moot by another mod, what scares me is the prospect of CTDs and game-breaking bugs.

I understand some of the more experienced modders can tell just by perusing a load order whether any mods are incompatible or duplicative. I also understand the upper limit for mods is 255. Is 228 unrealistic?

I'm also wondering about load order. Will LOOT sort that out? What about install order? Does that matter?

Finally, I'm willing to thoroughly read and follow instructions for installing each and every mod. Time is no object.
