stebbinsd
According to 6:31 - 7:35 of this video: ... your settlement's defense rating has absolutely no bearing on whether you win or lose a settlement attack that you don't personally fight in. Later in the video, he says that the odds of getting attacked in the first place are indeed reduced by high defense rating, but there is a hardcoded minimum 2% chance of a settlement being attacked. I can accept that; that at least provides game balance. But my defense should at least play a role in my success chance of off-screen battles! It makes absolutely no sense that attackers can overcome impossibly-fortified areas with hundreds of missile turrets guarding them. To a certain extent, I can understand walls not being a factor; if the game isn't actively processing that exterior cell, it would be way too taxing on the system to adjust the NPCs' pathfinding on the fly to account for walls. I can also accept that the system couldn't take into account the firepower of turrets or the armor/weapon quality of each settler, since again, that is just too much to ask for a cell that isn't being actively processed. But I always thought that was what the defense rating was there for to begin with! It was a single, simple, easy-to-calculate number that could be swapped in for all those other factors the game couldn't account for without actively processing the cell. So why the hell isn't it being used for what it was supposed to be used for? I'd like a mod that factors defense rating into the equation. Is there a mod out there like that? kevkiev
Been using BS Defence for a while and it's been working perfectly. And just makes sense - so dumb that showing up for an attack usually involves simply watching my turrets and armed-to-the-teeth settlers destroy attackers, but being absent means winning or losing coming down to a dice roll. Although I wish there was a mod that (i) took defence into account for whether an attack happens in the first place and (ii) took into account how heavily armed your settlers are, in either starting an attack or its resolution. I'm thinking that wish #2 would be damn near impossible to make though. That said, thanks for posting a link to your mod wim95, which I've bookmarked to use for my next playthrough. (Didn't know it existed - I'd only seen Settlement Attacks Beyond.) Seems like everything I want for when I do want to show up for an attack, and overcomes some of the shortcomings of SAB. Though I wish you could pick and choose DLC versions rather than "all or nothing" for DLCs. (I know, I know, mod authors must hate hearing that over and over. Sorry :( )
