I want to get into 3D modeling.

I'd like to be able to make my own custom meshes and textures, and eventually make my own skeletons for custom npcs. I have nifscope, cinema 4d r12, and gimp. Could anyone point me to tutorials on how to use these? From what I'm getting you can work in nifscope, but other programs are more suitable for 3d modeling, and nifscope is used for importing/exporting as a nif for use in skyrim.

Depending on what you want to model, the best ones are either Blender, a free program. Or 3DS Max, a program free only if you have a Student license online.

Blender is best suited for making weapons or armour. Buildings too if you are good at it.

3DS Max is better suited for things that require a bit more precise detail, it is very technical though.

GIMP is fine for most texturing.

NIFskope is mainly for getting the model ready for usage in-game, its not designed to make models from scratch.

Everyone only recommends MAX or Blender >_>

I say get Maya (Free with a student liscense or other methods that are wrong and I should not speak about because that'd be wrong), Blender for the import/export options, and NIFSkope.

Maya is much easier to pick-up-and-go with than MAX, and it's more powerful, but it does lack one or two plugins (Which blender has).
