MidnightVoyager Posted March 11, 2012 Share Posted March 11, 2012 Alright, I tried to make a mod to allow the purchase of Breezehome without the main quest at all. Alternate start sort of thing. It requires the rescue of the Gildergreen or the sapling. Problem: It doesn't show up if you do a full alternate start. If you just stop doing the quests when you're asked to get the Dragonstone, it doesn't work. Problem 2: I see literally no reason why this should not work. I've messed with the variables repeatedly, it's the weirdest thing. I even just tried to set it so he'd always say it, nothing. What am I missing here? Sunnie Posted March 12, 2012 Share Posted March 12, 2012 You should be able to eventually buy Honeyside (Riften), Proudspire Manor (Solitude), and Vlindril Hall (Markarth) by doing the Jarl favor quests and becoming Thane in those holdings. Hjerim (Windhelm) and Breezehome (Whiterun) are dependent upon the Civil War and Main Quest respectively in order to obtain them, Breezehome requires the quest and updates from the vanilla start, Civil War can be started by talking to any Imperial and Stormcloak guard. I know how to buy the houses normally. I started off trying to mod Breezehome so that it could be bought without the Vanilla start. However, a person helping me test noted that alternate starts somehow blocked them from normally gaining any house. I cannot figure out why this would be the case. I even resorted to removing all the appropriate checks from the dialog to buy Breezehome to make the topic ALWAYS show up, but it will not show up if you have done an alternate start. I am a bit confused since you stated "can't buy ANY houses if you alternate-start", which doesn't make any sense since only Breezehome is dependent on the vanilla start. It is apparently true, though. I started off just messing with Breezehome, but the person I have testing couldn't buy Proudspire either. They did the things required to buy the home, too.
