I have gotten all the way through killing the Mage (and her Atronachs (2)) in the Ritual Chamber, and looted her key. I find the three stolen books and can only READ them. I can't TAKE the books. The "E" command ONLY lets me read them. I am definitely in the "Hitting the Books" quest. However, I HAVE been through this keep while wandering the countryside on my own (I tend to poke into everything I run across). However, at that time I could NOT get into the Ritual Chamber as it was indeed blocked. Any ideas on how to pick up these books? I thought about bringing a follower with me and having them pick up the books and them take the books from them. Do you think that would work? I had no problem in the Fellgolw, but I encountered a bug with "Glories and Laments". Urag saked me to get that book, but it was in my inventory ALREADY (quest object, unremoveable). The quest marker pointed to the chest I took it from, I could not put the damned book back inside to take it again. And of course I couldn't give that book to Urag.Tried to remove it character->chest using the console, then take it again - same results (quest book in my inv., marker pointing the chest, Urag uncooperative). So I simply removed that book by "player.removeitem" and forgot about that quest. BTW, after that case I've got a custom not to take any special item without the corresponding quest. For example, visiting the Hob's End cave I found Pantea's Flute in the chest, but I DID NOT take it. Of course, it's a little harder with the books - they don't have "I'm the quest object" mark - so I don't take any books from the dungeon containers also - just in case. In your case try to open the console ("~" key) and type the following: setstage MG03 200 The quest will be marked as completed - go talk to Urag (or Tolfdir - he must be in the Hall of Elements already) to continue the Whiterun College line. Otherwise you'll have to alter the <Global=MG03BooksFound>/<Global=MG03BooksTotal> variables and, maybe, add the books to your inventory by console - and I don't know the codes for THAT VERY BOOKS (marked as the quest objects) you need.
