where to start?

Hello, i played skyrim vanilla lot of time ago and now i want to play it fully modded but the work look overwhelming, i have seen some guide but for example g.e.m.s. is gone and some say it's outdated, i have seen step and it looks awesome, where do you suggest me to start?

Considering im an old rpg gamer graphic looks not so important to me, should i remain on vanilla graphic to reduce the possible source of problems (stability, number of mods, ecc.) should i go for a "light" enhancement or what? I mean, i like good graphic like everyone but gameplay is my main goal

Start with STEP. You’ll end up with a stable, crash-free game that you can use as as base on which to build your ideal Skyrim experience.

There’s also a number of STEP packs you can add on to the base STEP install. The packs are normally created around a certain theme.

A side benefit of going through the STEP install is that you’ll learn a lot about how mods work and how to prevent and diagnose problems that can arise from mods that conflict.

First of all I would strongly suggest you use Mod Organizer rather the NNM. While it's a bit more difficult to learn how to use, it's a lot better and safer. There way too many great features it has that help make sure you don't break your game, let's you view which files overwrite what and it has profiles so you can play different characters with different mod without any problems.

Here is a great tutorial playlist if you are interested:

There is also LOOT to help with load order and TES5Edit. I recommend you learn how to use them, as they can make the whole process a lot easier. Look them on up on youtube. There are many great tutorials.

Always, absolutely always read the mod descriptions to make sure you aren't missing some required files or to check compatibility. For some reason people tend to ignore this and have problems later on.

Another important question is what kind of mod would you like to install. Better Graphics and textures? Bug fixes? Or overhauls that change the overall gameplay?
