Lost date in Creation Kit

Hi,

Today, I loaded up my mod that I've been working on for quite some time and found that pretty much all the data was lost. I lost a huge dungeon, quest information, and a character. In fact, there only thing left to the mod was just one actor.

I had to uninstall Skyrim the other day because of a problem with a mod I downloaded. I saved my mod in a folder outside of Steam before I did, so after I reinstalled it I just put it back in Skyrim's data folder. Did I miss a step? Is there anyway I recover my data?

Sounds like you saved an old backup of your mod. Check your recycle bin maybe? otherwise if you cleaned your mod of dirty edits and actually cleaned it of everything but the one NPC then there is no way to recover anything unless you made a backup.

Its most likely gone for good then.

I always backup the whole data folder when reinstalling a Bethesda game. Just right click the folder select copy. go up 2 folders or to another drive and right click and paste. it may take a while but it will copy everything just incase something like what happened to you did you always have the old files. I also do this everytime just before a major patch comes out just incase the patch breaks my game.

Sorry to hear that, it's super important to keep backups because its really easy to save over your mod plugin file. I have 44 backups for the mod I've been working on since the ck came out just to give you an idea. Anyways, good luck hope it doesn't take too long to put back together....

When you make a large mod over a long period of time, you make a whole bunch of backups of various ages. You don't want them all to be up-to-the-minute because your file might be corrupted and you don't know it yet. You put your backups into different locations. They are most certainly not all in the same directory on the same hard drive. Some of your backups do not reside on the computer. Some of them are on things like flash drives or DVD-RWs. They are not all stored in the same part of the building either. Some of the storage media like flash drives or DVD-RWs are stored elsewhere, just in case.
