Etiquette for using other peoples mods in your mod?

Hi, I'm thinking of trying to make a new mod, but I have no artistic talent. So, I was curious if it is frowned upon to use some other peoples armor and weapon mods. The mod I'm planning on doing is more of a quest based mod, and I want my characters to look unique.

 

Now, I understand the obvious things I will have to do. I know if I do this I will have to:

1) get their permission first;

2) give credit to both their mod and them.

 

I was just curious if I would be crossing some sort of line by doing this. Probably not, but I'd rather be sure. If it were your armor mod or whatever that I was using, would you be ok with someone else using it for their own modding purposes?

If both those things are done, there are no lines you would be crossing.

Best thing to do is to contact the original mod author about using their stuff, whether or not you are actually including it in your package. I'm sure they would like to hear that their mod is getting more reach and would probably be happy to help you out.

 

Fact of the matter is you can't know what their reaction will be unless you start talking with them, so don't be shy, you haven't crossed any boundaries yet. Send them a PM informing them of what it is you plan to do, and it should all work out without any backlash.
