Want To Start A Siege Mod

Hi guys! I want to make a mod that will create a giant castle and the player will attack (similar to the forts in the stormcloak/imperial storyline) but i want this battle to be enormous, so big, it will take atleast 2 hours to beat this fort. I just dont know how to go about doing the AI for this idea. Any tuts or pointers?

I would look at the civil war quests and see how they set the number of respawns as thats ultimately what sets how long the battle will last it looks like. Certain NPC's in seem to cause the respawns to stop and any remaining live ones run away. That would be those particular NPC's have a set number that will spawn and all the rest will respawn forever. when all from the set number of spawn dies then the forever spawns will stop and mission complete.

To make the battle last for 2 hours you would need enough of the NPC's that have a set number to last that long.

One thing i would suggest is have new NPC's spawn someplace else and come to the fort as reinforcements when the fort NPC's are exhausted. It looks horrible the way Beth did it and put spawn markers where you can see them spawn.

Sounds quite cool. Even better if you set up catapults to randomly fire out of the fort, and into the attackers.

The more firepower you can throw out of the castle the more fun it is. Perhaps have it controllable within the game. You can pull levers to turn some on and off.

A timeline that long would need to have more than just wave after wave of enemies I would think. Many mini objectives kind of like,

Civil War spoiler:

Where you have to run in and drop the drawbridge to whiterun as a stormcloak

Anyways, your specific question was about AI.

Do you know much about quests? scenes? packages in general? Scripts based off triggers? There are tons of ways to control the actors. Each particular scenario has different ideal solutions.

If you don't know much about the above, click the spoiler thing BELOW for some tips (I just didn't want to spam your thread with a big post if you don't need the info)

Tutorials you should check out no matter what:

(duh)

Specifically:

Video tutorials:

(I hope this doesn't embed the video... that's not what I'm going for, but whatever...) Same guy has a bunch of great quest related tutorials. Even if you don't think quest is what you're looking for, look at what they help you do before you look elsewhere.

If you want to use scripts and triggers (you probably will for at least a few things):

(duh) but don't knock it, if you have no idea how to do something, just go to the creationkit website, and type a few variations of it in the search box, chances are *something* useful will pop up, you just have to ask the right question.

Your project sounds pretty complex and script/hidden quest heavy. If I were you I would load up on information on what's possible before you even start planning a lot. There are tons of creative things you can do if you keep looking for new things.
