Break down doors!

Well if some skilled modder like InfiniteRealm and others may want to make this mod they can, no need to mention me (as i am full of ideas but unable to create master pieces like other insperating modders.)

So have you EVER found a wooden door or a door that needs a key or you have no lock picks, well the idea for this is that you can (using your weapons ie swords maces or hands) to break open a dorr, like unlocking that door and maybe changing the door have some thing showing that you smashed in that door.

Doesn't work for 3 reasons.

First, most locked doors are load doors, which don't actually have anything behind them. Any sort of "broken" door would likely look wrong, no matter what was done with them, in this situation. Having to recreate all those meshes, and script all those doors to use those meshes only makes this a bigger issue. Why spend all the time if the result will almost always look like crap, or not make sense.

Second, many locked doors are locked for a reason. granting the player access to these places can result in broken quests, and other things. Afterall, you can't explain why that door with a hard lock can be broken, but that door which happens to need a key cannot when they are both made of wood.

Third, and the biggest reason is due to scripting limitations. There isn't actually any way to make one object detect if it has been struck by the player (or any other NPC) weapon. Those few functions that do detect hits are limited to projectile hits. So even if you had managed to have all that other stuff working, you would still have a scripting issue.

The closest thing you could get would be something scripted to unlock the door, and tell you that you "forced your way in" with messages. No sort of animation or visual cue would actually work.

If you want something to unlock a door with a weapon, then you should try this.

Have fun! Remember to read the instructions.

is there a way to... dunno... set hit points to the door like in NWN and D&D series and somehow if the hp goes beyond 0 the door lock would be broken? I think it should be quite easy to achieve since most of the games have this, like fallout series, NWN series, I think Baldur's Gate series (not sure thou) even there is no animation at least the PC would crack the lock other then looking for keys or trying to pick the lock or cast spells to open up... I dont want to play a fighter class just for the lock picking issues or something... :D

Actually... It's technically possible. With bounding boxes. And OBSE for placing them. But it'd be one hell of a work :)

BTW, I've created a spell called "Weaken Lock" which weakens a lock by one difficulty level. PM me an email if you're interested.
