Broken Scripts

recently, i acquired this rather weird problem. some creatres in the world behave very strangely now. typically it is monsters; most NPCs are normal. townspeople follow their scripts, go to work and go home at the right times, speak normally, and perform scripted actions. however, when i enter a cairn or a ruin, most monsters within will be . . broken. rats do nothing. draugr do nothing until attacked.

now i consider this a fairly large problem. it destroys immersion completely to have draugr stand still, or wander aimlessly, staring at you, but making no hostile action until attacked."deathlords" dont give me death.

heres the weird part: BOSS cant fix it. Wrye Bash cant fix it with rebuilt patches, new patches, reordered patches. mod loading error doesnt appear to have any effect at all. running skyrim with ZERO mods has no effect.

what is borked? does anyone know? and how does this get fixed?

UPDATE: loading an old save from another character does not have this problem. i tested with Bleak Falls barrow: first character enters, and is attacked by rats and draugr on sight. other character is not.

both have the same mods loaded. what could be doing this? more importantly, how do i FIX it?

UPDATE 2: seems to be related, but some creatures are hostile, but cannot actually attack. the just stand in front of me, or follow.

also, creatures which are not attacking me do not appear on the compass.

UPDATE 3: cleansave didnt work.

so to abbreviate, i have somewhere a modified value that is:

1: not a base game file, because not all characters have it.

2: not located in the save, because cleansave did not expunge it.

3: not located in any mod, because loading without mods doesnt fix it.

so it does not exist. and yet, the bug. impossible.

Its obvious you have not disabled your mods completely. Simply disabling a mods plugin (esp) wont disable compiled scripts in your scripts folder or textures, meshes, sounds, or anything in your data folder. You must remove these by hand. Move everything outside your data folder to somewhere safe except the .esm and .bsa files that start with 'Skyrim'. Open steam and validated your game cache. Do the same for your .ini files located in C:/Users/Username/Documents/My Games/Skyrim. After Steam finishes its validation start the Skyrim launcher. If a new save works fine then it was an installed mod causing the problem. Its up to you to find the offending mod from there among other things to consider such as a bad mod baking data into your save game whether it was removed as a dependency or not. If a mod ruined your save you can find which mod did it by finding the save issues started popping up. When you found the offending save by asking Wrye Bash to see what the difference in mod dependency is between your bad save and last known working save.
