Vanilla oblivion's level cap is maxed at 50. So the only way around that is to use a skill uncapper mod. search legendary mastery, though im not sure if that will let you get to lvl 255.

Maximum level without mods is around 54. Total skill increases in majors come to 525 (unless you have something which makes your major skill start higher than 25). There are a few skill increases which can add on to the supposed 100 max The Night Mother's Blessing for one so 54 is probably max for most players. I managed 57 in one game although I can't remember how. I got a few points from losing major skills on exiting jail but not that many.

if i remember correctly u loose 1 point in a random skill per day in jail... this can be done indefinately and thus get you up to the hardcoded max lvl whatever that is... (a murder gets you quite a few days)

your starting skills differ depending on how you played the sewers as skill lvls gained there are carried over to the main game...

also your race and favourite specialisation (aka magic, stealth and might) are important...

a breton can get out of the sewers with lvl 40 restoration for example

thus being incredibly good in the sewers might cost you a few lvls in the long run

I am not sure vanilla being capped to level 50. The cap is your major skills caps.

Downloading legendary master mod will allow your skills to get to 200 (not 255), thus opening another 70 levels for you, which means level 120. Not bad...

I agree. I'm running TalkieToaster's Legendary Mastery mod, and his skill at modding gives you the chance to really buff up a character's stats & attributes.

The only thing you have to be careful of is getting in a hurry when you're selling stuff to a merchant, and accidentally "selling" the Legendary Mastery book..... :whistling:
