FranzLiszt
Hi, I am really new to modding and I was wondering if it would be possible to create a space in the land of skyrim that is bigger on the inside. Like I want a small hut with an open door and if you look inside it is a large space. I am a big fan of Doctor Who, I want a building kind of like a TARDIS. This is not a mod request, I was Just wondering if it were possible.
NanakoMagojiro
that depends exactly how you want to do it. If you make it a seperate cell, then it's simple. That is, it would be like the other houses in the game, where you press E on the door, then there's a loading screen, and then you're inside. Cells are basically just completely seperate areas, joined by a teleporter which happens to look like a door. so you could fit the entire world of skyrim into a little hut if you wanted. If you want to create something where you can open the door and walk in and out, or see stuff inside, or shoot arrows and spells in from outside, then what you're asking is impossible as it would break the laws of physics :P
FranzLiszt
Breaking the laws of physics are kind of the point LOL  But you suppose it would be impossible? Edited March 13, 2012 by FranzLiszt
McclaudEagle
Having it in the exterior cell is...plausible, but would require lots of work, and it would probably not be perfect anyway. If you could have something like a roombound that culls all the objects inside when looking at the shack from the outside, then that's the objects dealt with. The next problem would be having walls that have some sort of complete transparency from the outside. The problem is that while that already is done as standard for many models, you'll only end up seeing the other side (the side that's meant to be seen). You'd also need to worry about the collision, wouldn't be great to run into an invisible wall. Whilst I did say it's plausible, the chances of being able to achieve this is very slim. Sunnie
One other nasty detail.. if you build an interior in an exterior cell, you will have weather and natural effects happening in your interior, like snow, rain, bugs, leaves, etc. Walls/ceilings don't block these effects at all in exterior cells. Do yourself a huge favor and make your interior in an interior cell.
Tamb0
It is possible, but your hut would have to sit your hut right against a mountainside. Most, if not all, of the mountains or very large rock structures have a hollow base.. You could flip this up 30 - 45 degrees to expose the hollow side and build yur hut partially against it. Cover the rest of the hollow area with rock clutter and build a large are inside the mountainside. Small hut outside, large area inside. I'm actually doing a similar thing atm, although, I have no room structures inside the mountain, just tunnels.

Luckily, Whiterun has pretty decent weather :) Here's a preview to what I'm working on The big rock at the base has a tunnel running through it, heading back into (under) Whiterun. This also meant that the castle needed and interior with steps to lead down into the tunnel.. It was a bit tricky to do without using a teleport door, but I managed it. Kinda like working under the floorboards :) Edited March 13, 2012 by Tamb0
soulslayerzx
I'm not sure if you're trying to say the inside is undergrund, cuz if you had a door that lead to a huge space inside. Then there would be some kind of surface that is isolating this space of skyrim. Or you could put it undergrund or isolate the area that isn't being used by any space. I'd personally just create a new world or have a load door to an interior/custom world where i could build and not fk up anything else.

The rock does not have any invisible barrier, so nothing is isolating the inside from the game area (except for the textured area which is solid) I know some structures do have an invisible barrier, but these are mainly buildings. The top of the rock in the picture is cut away. It has no texture and no barrier. If you tried to walk along the top of it, you would fall inside. If you flipped it 90 degrees, you would have a big hole that you can walk into. You could build an interior and cover it with the rock and place it in Tamriel. The interior will be above ground and be accesible from Tamriel exterior, without a teleport. That's what I've done.
SinderionsBones
An idea for the effect you're looking for, I expect, whilst still going easy on yourself: An auto load door (the invisible kind for going into caves) just inside an outdoor lookalike portion of your interior. A similar setup for the exit, with some similar land looking stuff for you to approach to exit. An idea already hinted at but not developed quite enough: Mcclaud almost had it I think. So long as you restrict crossing into the roombound from outside the house, i.e. going by the sides of the of the building where the room comes outside the walls, you should be able to get the visual effect of looking from outside, and seeing a small cottage, looking from the inside (through a portal only showing inside) and seeing a certain amount of the interior. this would be due to the origins of your interior items(the point where the little yellow lines cross when you're selecting it) or items built on the ground to simulate an interior, being within the roombound. they would thus not be rendered if you looked from the side. you would, however, need to add some bounding boxes, and suitable excuses for their presence around the cottage a certain distance in a few directions. Maybe a small stone wall, that still allows a clear view, but blocks your crossing into the roombound, and revealing your trickery. I discovered this effect accidentally when I tried to roombound a multi story building turns out you have to put the flooring twice lol, once to be in the lower floor, once a few units up for the higher floor. Otherwise, you either look up at a roof, and down at nothing, or vice versa. Throw a portal into the mix(where the stairs allow transit), and things really start to get tricky. Things start rendering *just* outside the view of the player. line it up right and you can get some pretty trippy effects You could even combine the two. Use the roombound and hidden interior ONLY for their dramatic, trippy, visual effects, and then, as I said above, put your invisible auto load door just inside to allow yourself truely endless cross dimensional possibilities :D hope this helps.
