Kilrogg00
I've seen mention of this here but haven't seen a fix or workaround for it. Basically, all of my shadow-casting lights are red in the editor and only display in-game. They worked just fine at first but as my level got bigger they stopped working. Non-shadow lights are fine. Any idea what the cause of it is? For all I know I hit one of the many obscure and undocumented hotkeys and somehow turned off all shadow lights... Sunnie
Shadow casters are evil, don't use more than 4 in any line of sight. if possible, don't use any at all. -From the Wiki- Shadow-Casting Omni This type of light casts a sphere of light, just like a regular omni, but casts shadows. Shadow-casting lights can be identified by a purple axis, seen in Fig 8.1b.. Shadows generate additional polygons and only four can be visible at any given time, so be careful of how many of these you use. Too many shadow-casting lights will quickly cause performance problems and visual bugs Spotlight Spotlights cast light in a single direction and are useful for when you need a focused light, like with a skylight. All spotlights are shadow-casting lights, and therefore should be used frugally. (Fig 8.1c)
Kilrogg00
I'm not using more than 4 in the same room, and the rooms are separated (line of sight wise). I also set up rooms and portals but that didn't seem to change anything in the editor, and I still get some issues with my shadow lights in-game (some of them often turn off when I face slightly away from them, even when set to Never Fade). I guess I'll change everything to regular omnis and only use shadow lights in the 2-3 areas in my level that really need it.
Sunnie
Ya, I tried using shadow casters in my house mod, ended up pulling them all out because of issues with the lights not rendering at certain viewing angles, and it gets progressively worse as more light sources are rendered in the current line of sight.
