Falcon761
I'm new to this site, love morrowind and have been playing it forever now, but never installed any plugins. Are they perminent? Do they delete/alter my save files? Can I remove them and keep playing my save files? Please help!
Malchik
You can add or delete the plug-ins at any time. The official ones all add to the game in various ways and you might want to keep them as permanent. Other plug-ins are generally okay but some can cause problems, depending on the version of the game under which they were created and whether they conflict with other mods. A thread on conflicting mods appeared about two months ago so it is worth searching the forum for that. The plug-in has to be activated by you in the data files section of the original screen. It does not immediately affect your save game files. However if you load a saved game it will 'convert' it to run with the plug-in and any new save will include it. So if you always use new games you can play around deciding which, if any, mods you like before you load saves. You can equally turn them off at any time and convert the save games back. You will of course lose any items originating from the plug-in. Occasionally this causes a problem and it may leave strange unnamed boxes on the map. I would like to say that there are quite a few mods out there that are of a lower standard than I like to play. I haven't modded myself as yet - I intend to start in a couple of months - but I won't criticise anyone for making the effort, it's just that learning is by trial and error and some original attempts are less than wonderful. There is a thread here on favourite (US favorite) mods and again it is worth checking the forums. Some substantially unbalance the game and these I would avoid. If you want to cheat you might as well use the console. You will usually find an apparent error message when you are playing with plug-ins asking if it is okay to continue. Just ignore this. I hope that gives a few answers. Others will have more to add.
