Sarissi
No problems on your girlfriend's desktop? If that is the case, your notebook's hdd is likely going bad, and drives can go bad in a hurry. A friend of mine told me that you need o do the DLCs before you do the endgame in the main quest. That takes you into Broken Steel if you have it activated. Fallout 3 is immersive and free form in play style. I don't consider it to be a traditional 'has to be beaten' game.
Papajack55
It works fine in Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit for me. I did not buy the GOTY. I got FO3 at Gamestop PC Downloads, and was totally unaware of DLCs (they don't sell the DLCs). I don't have UAC turned off, but, I gave myself as a User full access to those program folders where I needed it. So far, the game, with all DLCs and modded, only crashes at one place and point in the game: at GNR Plaza when the Behemoth shows up and the Mini Nike detonates. Instant Crash to Black Screen every time. It took me 2 days to figure out a work around that works. And yes, crashing while saving does corrupt that save. Don't blame your problem on mods in general. It could be something else entirely, or contributing to. There's also another quick way to end the CTD problem even if it's a temporary one. Go to console after you put yourself in 3rd person (make sure your not in God mode) then just make sure you click the arrow on yourself, it will say your character's name and 00000014. Then type in "kill" without the quotes. Then, you can play on. Save often, I tell everyone.
