I have modded vlindrel hall and I have put in some draugr boss chest and used book cases from WinterholdCollegeArcanaeum.

In both the chest and the book case I`ve removed the items that was in them. I removed them in edit base/ item list and set them to not respawn.

And I did not rename or editing the id of the book case or chest (thougth that was the end of it).

And then by accident I looked into the WinterholdCollegeArcanaeum cell and clicked on edit book case and in the item list nothing was listed. So it looks like I`ve changed the items in other cells.

Question: SO DOES IT MEAN I HAVE EDITED ALL BOOKCASE`S AND DRAUGR BOSS CHEST`S IN THE GAME WHILE USING MY MOD. SO WHEN PEOPLE USING MY MOD ENTER WINTERHOLD COLLAGE

AND SEARCH THE BOOK CASE THERE WILL FIND NOTHING??? AND THE SAME WITH THE DRAUGR CHEST TEY WILL FIND IN THE GAME???

If this is the case do I have to edit the items id or items name or both to be able to use them in my playerhome without making them conflict the rest of the game.

Hopeing for some badass modders to give the noob some answers

If you edited the base object, then all child objects will inherit those properties.

Why didn't you just use the object window and drag stuff over to the render window,...like you're suppoed to do ?

Duplicating and copy/pasting objects from the game cells can lead to lots of problems and you should try to avoid it whenever possible.

Thank U for taking your time to answer..

I did drag the items from the object window.

Exsample: I draged a noble end table from the object window. Then clicked edit object/edit base and removed the items from the items list to make the end table emty.

Then I draged another from the object window and clicked edit object to remove the items on that endtable to. But I did not have to it was already removed.

So my previously change must have altered the new end table.

Then I opend prodspire manor cell to look at a end table there, and when I looked at edit object mode it was not any item on the list there either. I continued with a book case from my mod witch I knew had books in it when I first placed it, and compared it with the book case in winterhold collage. It was the same there..

So is it just changing in CK??

I checked in game with the end table in proudspire manor and the items was there!!!

But those could be there because of a early save game...??

I have never been in the winterhold collage so I cant check there. If was to I must play all the quest to gain access and its hours playtime... Little lost here.... So IF there is something to fix in the mod, I must try to fix it..

Yes you modified the base object and thus in every cell that object is in will have the changes.

Proper way to do it would be to duplicate the chests and bookcases because you want to use that model then edit what is in the duplicated chest and place that in your mod. that way the original is not not changed.

Just clean the edited chest changes like you would a dirty edit and redo that part.

Tanks for helping

"Just clean the edited chest changes like you would a dirty edit and redo that part"

It do not understand the meaning.. I`m to new to modding i guess.. But I was thinking that I have to load skyrim esm in ck then check the items I`ve change how they were original and then

load my mod along with skyrim esm then change the setting/ itemlist back to the way they were... Is that something close to what yo mean? Or will it do to redo my mistake??

And you said to duplicate the item then use the duplicated one. I dont think I can duplicate from another cell (or maybe you ment duplicate the ones I already draged into my cell).

So when I take a book case and drag it from the object window can I then duplicate it, change the duplicated one. And then delete the book case I draged from object window??? will it avoid making the same mistake. Or do I have to do somthing with the ID of item??

Hope I`m not a total lost cause..

What you should have done is Duplicate the object first, before dragging it from the object Window. This would now become a new base object. Any changes made to it, will not affect any other objects in the game. You can now drag this into the render window.

If you duplicated DraugrBossChest, you would now have a new object in the object window named DraugrBossChestDUPLICATE0001. << This is the object that you make changes to, not the original.

Sometimes it takes a while to show in the Object window, so just start typing DraugrBossChest in the search box, and it will appear.

Also, search the forum for information on how to clean dirty edits. There are plenty of posts.

When you are loading the esp and skyrim.esm after you make the mod esp active click the details button next to the active one. this is where you clean the mod of dirty edits. simply find the chest and delete it here. when you load the esp and esm it will no longer be in the mod. You should do this every time you look in another cell and the CK puts an * at the end of the name but nothing in that cell is part of your mod. and thats what is called a dirty edit, when the CK decides something is changed even though you didn't change anything.

I did not understand about the stars in another cell.. Now I have some work to do, and a way to do the work...

Now I can start to redo my mistakes for my own sake, and all the people who downloaded my mod.

So to the two amazing and friendly guys for helping me. A BIG HAPPY TANKS TO THE BOTH OF U

Kudos to U..

That's an asterisk. Though it looks like a star.

Look at the name of the cell you are working on in the list of cells and then the cells above and below it in the list. At the end of the name of the cell you are working on it has an * at the end of it. The * signifies that it is included in your mod. If you see an * on any cell other than what you are working on then you have a dirty edit and will know you need to clean your mod. In the items lists you also get an * on anything that has been changed so if you see the * there on something that you dont want changed its cleaning time. It's just a mark that says "this is part of the mod" and everything without the mark is not modded.

I hope that helps you.

*Edit

Dirty edits are a big deal. If you have a dirty edit on the barrel in Breezehome for example and somebody intentionally moves the barrel or deletes it in the mod they made. but in the load order your mod has priority then the intentional changes they made will be ignored because you had a dirty edit. you made a mod for Vindrel Hall so nobody would think it was your mod that caused the problem including yourself. Dirty edits like this could also cause everyone's favorite Crash To Desktop problem.
