kradus
Is there any hidden advantage at all to light shields, other than less weight?

Axxaw
Each Material type has it's own set block rate that increases as the skill improves. I don't know them off hand because if you pick the perk "deflect arrows" you will always block for 85% damage reduction no matter what shield type you use. TaranTatsuuchi
I assume that the different shield's armor rating is adjusted based on the appropriate perk tree.
yota71
when you have a good armor (ebony and up or a good forging rate) is pretty useless the shield, they adds no other protection, better use a second weapon for a devastating combined attack

RedRavyn
It depends upon whether you're really concentrating upon improving your light armor skill or your heavy armor skill, I think. I use light armor, but I'll use a heavy shield if I'm playing a character specializing in one-handed weapons. You still gain the perks associated with wearing only light armor, since the shield doesn't count in on this, but you get better protection. On the downside, if you use a light shield you'll find your light armor skill rising a little faster, I'd assume. I've played with a heavy shield and noticed that my heavy armor skill improved, even though all my armor was light. I figure it works the other way around, too.
