Saves break after activating over 256 plugins?

The game was fine before the plugins reached 256. But after I added some new mods with esps when I loaded my exitsaves everything reset. I was supposed to be in Vault 88 and finished most of the quests. However, I was teleported into another interior cell in Sanctuanry and all my mods include dlcs didnt work! All mods items and vault 88 were gone and some quests which I have completed emerged again? I deleted the newly-added mods and tried to reload my previous save but it still didnt work until I loaded a save long time ago. Anyone know whats going on?

the game has a plugin limit of 255 , which includes all official plugins (Fallout4.esm and the DLC ones) and whatever mods you use

if you try to activate plugins beyond the limit , the game will just remove other plugins from the list

now I don't know how it removes plugins from the list (taking plugins from the start of the list , the end of the list or another method) but whatever the case , this is guaranteed to cause you troubles , and usually will break your saves

now even if you have removed the newly added mods , you need to make sure that all of the plugins you had in that save are loaded into the game

 

to be quite honest , there is no reason to reach the plugin limit of the game , and there are ways around it

if you have experience , you can try merging plugins together (only do this with appropriate plugins , and if you really know what you are doing)

or you could just remove mods you don't really need

I should note that both of these should only be done on a new save , as changing your load order could break existing saves

so if you want to use the same save file , you need to recreate the load order you had when making that save , and make sure all mods are loaded properly

I finally decided to load a save two hours earlier and it worked fine. Unfortunately I have to reconstructed some areas in Vault 88 which I had put effort to. Thanks for your advice, I will try not to bypass the limit.
